Team Cauldron Entry (ART): "Soul with Soul" By Fox Estacado
Title: Soul with Soul
Artist: foxestacado on livejournal
Team: CAULDRON!!
Genre(s): Literary/Historical
Prompt(s): Hold My Hand, Coming Home
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG-13. Highlight if you wish to know: *WARNING for almost-naked angels, implied about-to-collide/engage in sensual activity that might be interpreted as blasphemous, and very, very minor implied bondage (explained in notes below).*
Artist's Notes/Disclaimers/Thank you: to TEAM CAULDRON for the wonderful last minute support and art criticism, and the snarry_games mods for giving me this opportunity to participate as an alternate and for working out the pinch hitters at the end so this piece can count for points! Thank you especially to [info]bethbethbeth for finding this passage (see below) of "Paradise Lost," successfully maneuvering me away from painting Snape and Harry meeting Batman in Gotham city.
I can finally say I participated in [info]snarry_games! I rushed this piece after taking the MCAT on September 10th, which meant working 50+ hours over 4 days to get this done. Which...towards the end, was absolutely miserable. But meeting the deadline and finally participating in [info]snarry_games (which almost wasn't possible because the MCAT)? Priceless. You will notice that Harry's legs are covered/wrapped in requisite-neoclassical modesty fabric. That is because at 2 a.m., I spent 2 hours trying to paint his legs, wildly unsuccessful due to exponentially dwindling attention span and energy. But, I rationalize that this mild bondage imagery symbolizes the imminent union of two souls, to be bound together, which is our very human visualization of a far more unrestricted Spirit embrace as described by Milton. This piece has a print size of 28 inches wide by 11 inches tall.
Media used: Photoshop 7
Archiving/Usage permission, including the Tribute Video (only after the polls have closed and medals have been awarded): Yes for the tribute video, no thank you for archiving. However, linking to my DeviantArt after it is posted there (so there is a direct link) will be very, very cool. Usage permission for anything besides [info]snarry_games tribute video: Please do not archive, edit, copy, or reuse any part of this painting anywhere for anything.

Paradise Lost (1667) by John Milton, Book 8, lines 618 to 629

To whom the Angel with a smile that glow'd
Celestial rosie red, Loves proper hue,
Answer'd. Let it suffice thee that thou know'st [ 620 ]
Us happie, and without Love no happiness.
Whatever pure thou in the body enjoy'st
(And pure thou wert created) we enjoy
In eminence, and obstacle find none
Of membrane, joynt, or limb, exclusive barrs: [ 625 ]
Easier then Air with Air, if Spirits embrace,
Total they mix, Union of Pure with Pure
Desiring; nor restrain'd conveyance need
As Flesh to mix with Flesh, or Soul with Soul.

OOoh this is so lovely. I love the expressions on their faces. I can't decide if it looks more like Harry is waiting for Snape to bring him home or if Harry is waiting to lead Snape away...Just *guh*

I'm so glad you were able to survive exams and join our team!

*stares*

Holy hand grenades, Batman!!! This is so much better than Gotham City ever could be! Wow. That could be on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, that could... oh, yes. I feel as though we're poised on the edge of a hugely important and powerful event, as though the universe has taken a breath and is holding it in... and just waiting.

Really, I'm blown away by the sheer beauty of this, the colours, the anatomically correct menfolk. Harry's face is a thing of beauty and his wind-blown fringe, omg! His arms, and the musculature there... (I have a 'thing' for arms!) Severus' body position, the arch of his neck and tilt of his chin... somehow imperious and yet wanting. *thud*

Skin tones are sublime, and Harry's wings!!.... Jesus, I have goosebumps! Love the turbulent background as well.

I. LOVE. IT!

This is beautiful: their muscular definition... breathtaking. Lovely Harry almost wrapped up, needing the ever-so-elegant Severus to come rescue him and take him away - just perfect, I tell you!

Holy COW this turned out GORGEOUSLY!
I knew it was going to be special when we saw the Harry preview in the com but WOW, this really exceeded all expectations.
This is sheer perfection.
Also? The explanation for Harry's 'bondage' is great!
Their wings are fabulous, the clouds are practically touchable, and THANK YOU for the close ups that allow me to drool over their heavenly bodies see them in more detail.
Mmmf.

Team CAULDRON, YAY!

Wow, just wow. This took my breath away. The detail is amazing. Their wings and bodies are beautiful. I love the muted colours.

I particular love the way Harry is reaching out to Severus, who is swooping in to greet him.

This is totally amazing, can't tell you how much I love this :D

Wow....just....Wow

*reassembles brain*

*cough* Wow

The wings are absolutely amazing! The detail in the feathers, the shading and the shape/flow of them.
It's obvious from this that you have a great grasp of anatomy (i'm sure MCAT = anatomy nerd) these poses are soft but strong. this is very sensual, and I think the draping suits the mood of this image really well (regardless of the "Harry has to legs" ^_^)

stunning work!

This is simply divine! The wings, the bodies, the muscles, everything is sooo detailed and just perfect!

I love the expressions on Harry's and Severus's faces and Harry's outstretched hand, the way he reaches out to Severus. And I absolutely love the sky! The clouds are truly amazing and the coulours are beautiful!

Gorgeous and breathtaking work!

Thank you for sharing!

Oh wow! That is even better than the preview we received in the comm. I love the attention to detail. The individual feathers of their wings, the expression on their faces, the bondage of the cloth, the musculature of their bodies, and OMG! the toes! I don't know why but I adore the little toes! The dark clouds giving way to the light as Severus flies to meet Harry's out stretched hand is just gorgeous. Simply beautiful!

*tugs sharply on modesty fabric*
*gives up in disgust and disappointment*
So beautiful! I love the stormy colors, and the deep colors of the wings. The bodies and faces are so classically posed (love the positions of Snape's hands), and I am especially drawn to Harrys' face.

Wow--totally gorgeous! What are you doing taking the MCAT when clearly, you should be an artist! ;-) Unless you're planning on being an anatomical illustrator, which if this is any evidence, you have a talent for. I loved it all--the pose, the idea, the expressions, the wings, the literary reference--just fabulous.

Okay, this is stunning. The play of light and shadow, their bodies (draped "just so"), and the magnificent wings. Just lovely. I'm so pleased to have helped steer you in this direction. :)

Heavenly Bodies!!!
Oh, Fox, they are so beautiful, so over-the-top Romantic with a capital R, you make this Snarry shipper filled with happy sighs.

Worthy of a chapel somewhere, don't you think, Snarry Fen?

Harry's wings, guh, what marvelous movement, and the swirling background is filled with beautiful painting, if you can tear your eyes away from the angels.

With that incredibly buff Severus, I predict this is one afterlife tale where Harry is NOT going back.

Absolutely breathtaking. Harry's wrapped legs were one of my favourite parts of the painting, actually, even before I read the author's note.

This is unbelievable... I don't think I can comment on this in any meaningful way whatsoever. This is ridiculously good. The whole thing...the details...the prompts... speechless. I'm totally speechless. There are works that deserve solid 9s and then there are works (now and then) that are so beyond 9s that's not even funny....this is it.
