Team: Cauldron
Genre(s): Literary and Crossdressing/Genderbending
Prompt(s): Secrets and Lies
Rating: R
Warning/Kinks: Highlight if you wish to know: *The abovementioned Crossdressing. Written (hopefully) like a Regency romance novel.*

A/N: Tons of people to thank. The mods for being so patient with me as I struggled to finish and get this edited. Femme and Djinnj for their cheerleading and betas and saving me from making some disastrous mistakes. :D My sister and Delta both for not letting me give up this story.

Summary: With the guilt of his sister's death hanging over him, Lord St. Gryff embarks on a treacherous adventure impersonating his sister not realizing that the subterfuge will forever change his life when he meets the dark and mysterious Lord Snape. As he finds himself falling more and more for the enigmatic man, the fear that the lies their relationship is built on will come crashing down increases.

Scorned by society for wartime actions that no one for sure knows are true, Lord Snape has no recourse but to marry a proper young lady and beget an heir as quickly as possible. When his some times ally but most times enemy suggests the sister of a friend who might understand his peculiar preferences, he thinks he's found the answer, but has he?

Oh this was so cute and sweet. It reminds me of those old Barbara Cartland novels a bit... only much better written and slashy! : ) I just realized after I wrote that that she would probably have a heart attack being compared to a slash story! lol. Oh well! : ) It was incredibly awesome! So fun, and funny in all the best places! I really enjoyed it!

Most excellent and lovely work! I love the plot and how things developed between Snape and Harry. I also liked the Draco/Ronald mention (second favorite pairing, lol). Very well done!~Sophia

Ahahahaha!
How clever you are.
I think you fit Harry, Severus and all the canon characters seamlessly into Regency London. *g*
All the little details are perfect, the plot twist sand turns made me literally LOL (my coworkers think I'm nuts now) and the ending was very well thought out. *pets Albus*
Fabulous job!

Just brilliant. I really enjoyed the way you brought the characters into Regency London, and that Harry didn't automatigically figure out how to act as a woman of the ton. And Severus was wonderful, as was Sirius. Oh, and Draco and Scorpius. *g*

This was so funny and cute and sweet (sorry for all the ands). I absolutely adored your Draco, I think he quite like telling Harry off. The same for Lupin, he bossed Severus around like he was the master, brilliant. A lovely romp through Edwardian (?) England.

This is absolutely great! All the little details from the Potter-universe and all the characters to recognize! It was real fun to find them all and they were all in character and fit perfectly into the time and place of your story. Wonderful job!

This was such a treat -all the delightfully convulted society rules, Draco in a dress, and Snape with no detectable honourable intentions whatsoever. It doesn't get much better than this ;)

You did a fantastic job with the style of the piece-all the details about what can and can't be done, who can dance with whom when, etc. I LOVED when Severus rides up and Harry is totally in love with his horse! And Harry doing such a piss poor job of passing himself off as his sister. Draco with Scorpius was marvelous. Great resolution in the end too. Well done.

My biggest criticism is that I, being extremely unfamiliar with Regency, was confused several times by unfamiliar vocabulary. What is a ton? What is a Season? Having finished the fic, I still don't know. I have no doubt that you know your Regency stuff from this fic--I feel like by the end of it, I shouldn't have been confused any longer.

The ton is a Regency period term for the upper class; it's from haut ton Definition here

Regency Language by Diane Farr

Quick History of the Regency Period

It can get very confusing.

aww ‘ma puce’ that’s what my grandfather used to call me. I really like historical fics and this is no exception; very enjoyable!!! though I wish sirius got at least a little punished for trying to get rid of harry and trying to get her compromised...

Wow, I loved this! I'm into Regency in a big way, and this was so fun to read, especially the dialogue! And I adored it when Snape found out: "You're not a woman, and I don't give a damn." Ooh, hot! Wonderful!

Sweet and romantic. I love the plot - it seems like just the sort of harebrained scheme Harry would undertake. Draco as his sidekick is hilarious. I like the budding relationship between Harry and Severus, and the fact that end the end, they manage to work out everything. Go, Cauldrons!

very interesting look into the universe of women during this period. I like how Harry was oblivious to all the "rules" of being a lady, like the fans.
Great story!

Ohhh, what fun! What a Gryffindor thing for Harry to do, but at least it all turned out all right in the end! I have to say, this is exactly the sort of thing I love - Regency romances, I mean - so maybe I'm a little biased, but I think it's just absolutely absolutely absolutely awesome. :D

I do not like Sirius very much in this fic - but you portrayed him as the perfect cad. I can't help wondering how Harry thought of him after the fact - going out of his way to get Harry's "sister" compromised, instead of defending "her" honor as a proper friend should have.

Severus and Harry were, as pointed out by Centaury Squill above, right out of Georgette Heyer. Both of their lack of the proper social skills was amusing, but appropriate. I especially liked that Severus was somewhat evil - and a little sad to think that the only way he could acquire a wife was to place her in disgrace and force her into it to avoid scandal.

Draco was an absolutely delightful character; I have never seen a fan used as both a discrete form of communication and a weapon before. And leading on an always clueless Ron...

Well done

Very cleverly done, my dear! I went through a romance phase (of, like, twenty years *g*) and I used to love Regencies. This works so well in that same tradition- and how nice that Harry and Severus both found someone who..."shares their proclivity." *g*

I really enjoyed reading this, particularly the interaction between Harry and Draco. I couldn't help cracking up everytime Harry got in trouble for something he'd done wrong.

The interactions between Snape and Sirius were so spot on. Harry and Severus pining for each other was so funny yet so sweet, it made me want to smack them both upside the head and tell them to do something about it and put everyone else out of their misery.

The side pairing of Ginny and Luna was awesome. Great Job!

This should get a special award for best use of Draco in a Snarry fic. Who else could get away with living stealth in Regency England? Who ELSE would Harry turn to for an education in drag, and in passing? *cackles madly*

It was a sad situation that Snape felt forced into marriage, and even sadder that he felt that the only way he could get married was to entrap someone. But it's to your credit as a writer that that fundamentally tragic situation really didn't bring down the overall mood of the story.

I loved poor Harry's stumbles in trying to fit in, and I really loved Snape's reaction when the inevitable happened and he found out.

I was extremely impressed with the accuracy of the setting, its fashions, mores and language. You've clearly put a tremendous amount of research into this story, and it shows!

Thank you so much for all the effort!

I had fun reading this, even though I’m not entirely sure why Harry would choose this kind of deception to honour his sister’s memory. Or how it was possible those society gossips didn’t know she had died several years ago. But I enjoyed Draco’s frustration over Harry’s inability to learn proper manners, and I liked the relationship between Snape and Lupin. The too small boots as Lupin’s “life insurance” were hilarious. And I found it very amusing that, contrary to what happens in most fics, your Harry was actually trying to blush. I’m still laughing at Draco’s words to Poppy: And if all else fails, teach him to faint.

My favourite part was the interrupted almost kiss and seeing Luna/Ginny through Harry’s eyes.
