Oh, I really liked this! Wonderful characters - both canon and original, and some very clever extrapolations of "what if...?" I loved your Filius in this, and the way he managed things, all the while letting himself be underestimated. Gianni was quite a dish! I was especially glad that you give Harry a happy childhood and Severus the promise of a long, happy life with someone who loved him.

An interesting handling of the concerned-person-removes-Harry plotline. I really liked your unobtrusively comptent Filius. You contributed some ingenious ideas, and managed to create a Dumbledore of whom even his phoenix familiar disapproves! Good to see Severus released from that slavery, even if he suffered a lot first, and to see friends and enemies cooperating to make it so. Even better to know that he will be rewarded with love and family, among which will be a Harry saved from abuse and exploitation.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Most Snarry writers use the 'we both had horrible childhoods and that will give us common ground' device at some point, but it was gratifying in this story to see Snape witness it, and identify in reality. Flitwick was so strong in this, and Poppy too, but I fell in love with the wise Nonna, mourned for Snape's leg, but was filled with warmth over the prospect of a different childhood for Harry, in such a wonderful environment, your Italy.

Dumbledore was chilling in this, and yay for Lucius doing his best for his friend in the end. And I think that mentor relationship is about to kick into high gear. Poor suffering Snape, he deserves some happiness, and I think it/Gianni just knocked at his door! What a satisfying story!

first.. I loved this.. LOVE LOVE LOVE...

one of my things is that Magic can't cure everything.. like a missing limb.. or breathing problems.. makes it so much more realistic..

and you've taken points of contention.. such as when Kartkoff voiced that Severus' was a Death Eater in front of the entire body.. with Dumbledore vouching for him... it was wonder anyone trusted him..

Filius as a the little giant that no one thought would be devious.. excellent..

Just excellent..

Great setting in Italy (although I am a bit biased as my children have a Nonna themselves *g*). She and Gianni were great OC's, Filius was a fantastic, strong character and as much as I hated seeing Severus suffer, you did a great job with his injuries and recuperation. Harry seems to be well on his way to a happy life and Severus too. Very nice work.

Beautifully written and your characterisation of Flitwick was great. I'm not usually a fan of Severus with OCs but I really liked Gianni and wanted to read more about the two of them.

Lovely, LOVELY fic. Very well done. Although your take on the Severus-rescues-Harry theme was excellent, it was your secondary characters that captured me.

Flitwick ROCKS here! So many authors (and film directors) pass over the fact that Flitwick is head of Ravenclaw for a reason. He is not, as Severus would say it, a dunderhead.

Despite all his nastiness, Lucius is one of my favorite characters in canon. I loved your version of him. I loved that he joined up with Poppy (another excellent character here) and the rest of the staff to get Severus released from his contract. LOL Although I do have to wonder if Lucius would have gone to such lengths had Severus failed to convince Lucius that he was not a blood traitor.

Sophia and Gianni were excellent OCs. So many times fanfic authors will try to give an entire backstory to their OCs (even when they're secondary characters) and the story becomes bogged down in a lot of backstory that just isn't necessary. You've given just enough information about them to make them fit into the story without letting them take over.

Harry was adorable and smart and very perceptive. Very well-written.

I really enjoyed this, I loved Filius and your OCs in particular, and ebil!Dumbledore was excellent too - loved that even his familar got fed up with him. Glad poor Severus had a chance at happiness (even if it wasn't with Harry). Excellent fic, thank you!

"that demented Dumblebee"

Tee hee. Too right!

Loved the Italian twist -- Yay Nonna and Gio -- and little Haddy, too. :)

And I think you did a terrific job fleshing out Fillius, Figg and Pomfrey.

Oh, I was rooting for Severus and little Harry EVER so hard! Doh, that manipulative Dumbledore and his blasted chest game.

How I luved your Flitwick! He was marvelous. I really enjoyed the departure from canon. Great job!

What a lovely AU. I do find myself wondering what happened to the WW when Voldemort returned, but I'm sure this was a better life for Harry and Severus, especially Severus. :)
Flitwick was FABULOUS, love him.
Well done.

Oh, this was awesome!
I loved the chess quotes, the richness of Italy's wizarding culture and, of course, the very unique tale of what happened to Harry and Severus.
I've read other fics where Dumbledore is made out to be the villain, but I always end up loving him again by the end - not this time! I think you actually made me hate Albus a little.
Loved Severus finding love and a future, and Harry finding freedom.
Did you plot out what happens next 'off camera'? Does Harry become the child of the prophecy, or does he continue on a completely different path as Hadrian? Do the 'bad people' eventually come for him?

well, regardless, I loved it!
Well done, teamie!

Wonderfully done! I loved your OCs and your Filius and your political!Lucius. And Snape, of course! The "sins of the fathers" bit and Snape's instinctive "Protego" hit me especially. I like that their lives aren't perfectly happily ever after--Snape's mobility has been impaired and Harry has a dangerously jealous cousin--but they're loads better off than in the UK.

Wonderful work. I have always wondered why Mrs. Figg wouldn't say anything about Harry's treatment, so I was happy to see that she's the catalyst in this one. I love that you sent Harry to Italy and that you gave Flitwick a bigger role. I've always thought he was underutilized in canon. I think it's more realistic that the staff does not always agree with Dumbledore and that they make their displeasure known.

I adore Gianni and Nonna, and the burgeoning relationship between Severus and Gianni was very interesting. Excellent job.
