I can see I'll be reading fics from this fest for a long time to come. I only just got around to having time to read this one.
This was lovely, a nice thing to be able to read on a muggy summer day when one needs distraction from steamy heat and no way to escape it.
I liked the natural progression of their relationship here, stemming from their shared history, an ill-timed first encounter and their unique relationships with Albus Dumbledore and Lily Potter.
Having only seen one episode of Hamish MacBeth, I can't speak to that aspect of the fic, but I did enjoy seeing a slice of life there and how both Harry and Severus find it and each other in the safety of its welcoming confines.
Mercutio was charming. Harry's love of creating things with his own hands unsurprising and very fitting. Severus's profession is one I have long felt he would end up doing if he went undercover, although your concept is an interesting one since here he finds pride and comfort in learning he is good at something besides what his two masters would have approved. Something that does not require his magic at all, except the magic of his voice. (and some of us can and do appreciate that!)
My favourite part of the fic was when Severus decides to show Harry the difference between being fucked and being made love to. Particularly wrenching was the line: He'd had this fantasy hundreds of times when he'd desperately tried to retrieve that stolen, ruined encounter and make it into something memorable, worthy of both of them.
It is so quintessentially Severus. Canon even, as Rowling showed us his doing something even more drastic in DH with his safeguarding of that fragment of a letter from Lily wherein she bestows love to another, not even him, and he clings to this fragment, with a clear intent of utilizing it to sustain him in his dark hours, when fantasy was likely his only means of escape.
That he is surprised when Harry accepts him flaws and all, is again, so very Severus -- after all, he has accepted Harry in all his flawed humanity and yet he still does not feel anyone would do the same for him. :) I love that about them both; Harry's forgiving nature and Snape's exacting one. You did them both proud here. Brava!
