TEAM DRAGON ENTRY: "The Twisted Mind of Severus Snape" By xbloodsugarx
Title: "The Twisted Mind of Severus Snape"
Artist: [info]xbloodsugarx
Team: Team Dragon
Email: luciusmalfoy [at] gmx [dot] at
Genre(s): Horror
Prompt(s): Master & Servant, Masquerade
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG13. Drag mouse over space if you wish to know: * blood, guts, Harry with red hair. *
Artist's Notes/Thank you's: My Idea was to show Snapes's mind like you see the mind of the serial killer in "the Cell". *see under cut for notes on symbolism* Thank you that I could be part of the Games, it was a great challenge.
Media used: watercolour, pencil, coloured pencils, white ink, copics
Archiving/Usage permission, including the Tribute Video (only after the polls have closed and medals have been awarded): sure, just ask.

Dial-up users beware of large image under cut.

Artist notes:

Some Explanations because of the symbolism: Harry's hair is red because he is, of course, like Snape wants him to be, looking more like the beloved mother than the loathed father.
The skeleton is a stag, it works both ways for me, it's first the Patronus of Harry, which is now only a dead skeleton and the birds are pecking the guts, showing that Harry's defence is broken in all ways possible. Secondly it stands for James, of course. The Patronus-doe which also stands for Lily is eating it's guts, showing there is no bond between them. That thing on Snape's and Harry's leg is like a manacle made of red hair, showing along with Harry's pose and the "crown" just who is the master and ruler of this mind.

Man, that is AWESOME. I love the corset to feminise Harry a little, and the red hair is great. The colours are wonderful!

It's sort of violent and erotic at the same time - gorgeous work!

Honestly, what in this ISN'T completely made of incredible awesome? The line art and ink work is perfectly sleek and clean and beautifully detailed and fragile yet strong, it adds so much interest to their figures and expressions.

And then there's the colouring. The watercolour medium is absolutely perfect. I how it's bordered and paneled and looks like a sheet of leather or skin, with all the gorgeous gradients, water blooms and textures. I love the bright horror of the blood and the instinctual, primitive evokative colouring style.

And the all of the symbolism! It's what keeps me coming back, to look and stare and analyze the art, to sink into the meaning and beauty of it. I'm telling you, this needs to be in an artbook for an amazing video game or anime or something. It's just so breath-taking and compelling!

GO TEAM DRAGON, WOOTS!!

Oh my! Everything about this is stunning. The colouring, the symbolism. My favourite part HAS to be the look on Snape's face - it is beautifully illustrated.

The creepy factor is high here, especially with what look like bloodstains in the background.

Nice job.

The way you used the colors blows me away as much as the imagery. I keep squinting just to pick up more nuances with how you used the watercolors. As somebody who's pants with that medium, I bow in total aweness of it (and may I add envious...I would love to use a medium in that way).

My favorite part is still Snape's face and headdress. And here I get to ogle it even bigger! Wow...GO DRAGONS!

So frightening and powerful. I can't stop ogling Snape, still. His face is my absolute favourite but love your Harry as well. He reminds me of Schiele. The watercolours make the whole pic very dream-like. Scary, it's true, but beautiful.

This is made of awesome! I think it looks like Schiele, only the persons are far more beautiful than his. By the way, you captured the "the Cell" mood perfectly, it's exactly what I thought of even before I read the explanations above. Großartig! :)

I really like this work - the colours, the symbolism. It's very interesting that Snape barely leaves room for Harry in his mind, I can only see Lily in the adoring face.

Wow. That's stunning. The watercolors are brilliant-I was immediately drawn by your style. I love all the symbolism, the stag and the doe, the red hair but I must say Snape is clearly the center of this picture. His expression, his body language, the headdress. Amazing work.

powerful stuff - the figures are sensual and the pose riveting, and the watercolor makes it that much more dream/nightmare-like.
really beautiful, and the use of the stag is amazing.

You seriously packed so much into this one work! I wanted to look at each part seperately, but that was just impossible. It was all or nothing! Wow!

That is absolutely creepy - The horror is well done! I also like the way you kept that edge of masculinity in Harry's face & eyes, in spite of & in contrast with his feminisation.
