TEAM MEMBER INTERVIEW # 35 -- Lampblack
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name (and lj name if different): lampblack
Your Snarry Games Team: Team Angst teamangst_art
1. What made you decide on Team Angst?
Both teams sounded like fun, but the emotionally darker approach seemed more appealing to me at this point. Oddly, I prefer romance fics when I read... go figure!
2. Which HP character is your favourite to create in art?
Severus Snape!!! Snarry is my favorite pairing, of course.
3. Has your experience in fandom changed the way you do art? How?
It's made positive and happy and more free about what I do. I've never known a more creative and generous group of artists. Fandom has been my teacher in being more open and happier. Erm, happier being angsty in this particular case, of course.
4. Do you prefer drawing your own scenarios, or drawing scenes from canon?
I prefer illustrating scenes from fan fiction. When I think "scenes from canon", I think "Mary GrandPre", heh heh....
5. What made you decide to draw fanart the first time? Which fandom was it?
I've only been in one fandom; Harry Potter! starrysummer had a post a while ago where people listed their desires/wishes, and I was really touched that so many authors were longing for illustrations of their work... I'd never experienced that sort of longing for something I was capable of doing before. Usually in the art gallery scene, a room full of jaded people say very critical things about the work, they aren't even liking it, let alone wanting it for their own.
6. Who is your favourite fandom artist?
All of you!
7. Have you ever been inspired to draw fanart for a fanfiction work? Why?
Yes, there's an image that complements or works with the words that you want to share.
8. What are your favourite mediums to work with?
Relief printmaking (woodcut and linoleum cut). Graphite pencil, ink, watercolor. Collage. I saw sherant's lecture at Lumos, and I really want to try digital/electronic media. It seems very much like the way I work in printmaking and collage, the adding and subtracting parts.
9. Do you have a piece of art (fandom or original) you've done that you are
most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
Here's a portrait of Severus Snape that I did for The Snape Postcard

It's acrylic paint on silver foil mounted on rice paper. It looks a bit like a lithograph, and I like the rich texture of the darks.
10. Are you excited about the Snarry Games?
The universe is all hushed velvet blackness, and we are waiting for the moment when a galaxy of Snarry artwork explodes into creation! Yes, I am excited!!!
Thank you, lampblack
