Clueless!Harry cruising along happily in his life hits a bump in the road when he crosses paths with a notDead!Snape. Of course, he just has to know the hows, whys, and wherefores of Snape not being six feet under. So he pushes and pushes until he gets Snape to meet with him again and from there things just slowly but surely careen off the path he’s been blindly following. I loved that Snape can clearly see that Harry isn’t really content with his life and snarkily points it out to him. Their secret meetings continue until BANG! it happens. I knew that something would happen sooner or later but I was surprised with the ardor on the Snape’s part. It was…unexpected but made complete sense. Goodness knows, Harry really needed to be hit hard by a two by four clue in order for him to finally be able to see the truth. And not surprisingly Harry runs away, unable to face that truth. Poor Severus. :(
Harry laid one hand on the railing and smiled sadly, then sat down on the front step to think.
::tsk, tsk:: You should have done that sooner.
Harry held up two bottles of ale and grinned. Snape slammed the door in his face.
"Let me in and I'll explain it all to you," Harry ventured.
For several heartbeats, Snape didn't move. Then, very slowly, he opened the door wide and stepped aside, allowing Harry to enter his home.
Yes! Thank goodness! Snape was rightfully still upset with Harry but was good enough to give Harry a second chance. Hopefully things are at last on the right track. ::crosses fingers and thinks good thoughts::
These are some of my favorite lines:
"Slytherin, Potter," Snape said. "Deal with it."
"Yes, but in my case it required caution, planning, and skill. In your case it was just sheer dumb luck."
"You're punctual and you remember dates? You're not intending to propose to me, are you?"
"There was only one person to whom I was ever untrue," Harry said. "You were right about everything, you know."
Thanks for a highly enjoyable story! Terrific job!
