TEAM DRAGON ENTRY: Jadzialove "Of Cabbages and Kings"
Title: Of Cabbages and Kings
Author: [info]jadzialove
Team: Dragon
Genre(s): Post-war and Romance
Prompt(s): Sleeplessness
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17 *EWE, mentions Ron/Hermione, Snape Lives! Wanking, Virgin!Harry.*
Word Count: Approx. 23,830
Summary: Harry was supposed to enjoy life after the war. Instead, he can barely stay awake for it. Running out of hope, he finds help from the most unusual sources, and in a wholly unexpected place.
A/N: Thank you so very much to [info]joanwilder—our fearless Capitan, my talented beta, and my most awesomest friend—for talking me down from the tree when I hated my story and despaired of offering anything decent. Many thanks to my Dragon teammates, who kept me from a terrible disservice to my poor deprived Harry, and to my friend from the future, [info]blamebrampton, for the Brit-pick and for kitten-inspiration. And a huge thank you to [info]djin7 and the mods for all of their hard work, and for letting me play. It's been an exciting, terrifying and very fulfilling experience for me.
Lastly, though it's not necessary to the story, I feel compelled to mention that Kreacher sounds like Boris Karloff in my head—if you don't know who that is, think Grinch.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, but he sure as hell owns me.

Lovely story, teammate. I loved the premise and the way Severus and Harry slowly fall into a relationship. Pendragon the cat was adorable. Great job.

Dragons, ROAR!

I enjoyed this oodles when you posted it to the community and still adore it, especially how snarky you kept Snape and nearly-innocent in all matters you kept Harry -- a "delightful naivete" as Snape might say with a snarl.

Go dragons!

This was so incredibly perfect! I loved everything about this - Harry suffering, Severus casing the chicken (!!!) and living in that cottage, Harry writing, ... I could go on like this. :D

That was so good, as good as chocolate with the morning coffee or champagne and strawberries in the afternoon - an absolute treat! Your Harry is adorable:

He was a poof, or something like it, and apparently, he was sweet. Well, he didn't want to be sweet—he wanted to be manly. Hadn't sending Voldemort off to the netherworld given him any credibility at all?

Apparently, even that couldn't overcome being a sweetly clueless, twenty-year-old virgin with an uncertain sexual orientation.

So much love for this Harry, and he made me laugh, too. In a good way. And Snape, cat owner Snape who's learned what makes a pet a pet. *g* I love this version of him, a man who's made his peace and created something of his own. (Trust Harry to come and disturb it.)

Interesting new variation of a bond. I loved that it happened The moment in which Snape the monster had become Snape the man.

Most of all, though, I loved Xanthus Lovegood. He's a powerful character, one of the most powerful OCs I ever came across. I'd love to see more of him! (Don't get me wrong, he's perfect in this fic, but in another fic ... *g*)

"The Magically Unencumbered have the best of both worlds, you see. We have the ingenuity of Muggles, and the knowledge of wizards, and ours is a world full of limitless possibilities!"

This is just perfect. I honestly wonder why it isn't canon. It should be!

The canon characters were all well-drawn and Luna's Uncle Xanthus was a delightful cameo. Pendragon the cat was cute! I loved Harry and Snape's predicament with its hot resolution - and a happy ending in spite of Snape Apparating to Estonia "because he could" (heh).
Yay Dragons, ROAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!

Magical! And so funny:
"No way, mate. This stuff is so much better than that idiot's books. For starters, you didn't once mention your favorite color in the bit I read."

Loved this. Wonderful premise and writting.

Wonderful story - I enjoyed it so very much.
Your depiction of Harry's fatigue reminded me so much of my brother's struggle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it nearly broke my heart to read.
And your Severus was perfect - snarly & generous, stern & kind. A beautiful love story.

Not a possibility of a good or even sane review b/c I`m from Estonia and Snape coming here (to drink?) just killed me *dies from laughter*. A wonderful fic, anyway, and I really loved your way of writing humour.

I'd been looking forward to your entry since the Games began -- and it was so worth the wait! Such a sweet story, with so much to love about it -- the cozy cottage; a peaceful, meditative Snape; an exhausted yet determined Harry... Actually, though, I think it's the image of a laughing Muggle-clothed Snape chasing a pet chicken that'll stay with me the longest. :-D Thanks for this wonderful fic!

How many ways do I love thee? ... Oops, I lost count of it Oh lords! I love this so very much! And I whole-hearted agreed with [info]svartalfur, 'coz I said so. Luna and her uncle are just too much! They make the story really comes alive.

Anyway, at the beginig of the story, I was really, really, really afraid on Harry's condition. *frowns* it sounded really bad, sleeping all the time and not knowing when you're awake. That's scary. I'm glad it's all worked out for Harry now. Thanks for the great story! *I love you!!!* *grin* Now, don't run away! Would love more stories.... *Turning into RitaSkeeter type of adoring fan* More stories! lol!

Oh my. I too can't count the ways. This is one of the best bonds I've seen-not the when so much as the effects. That Harry has the magic but can't stay awake and Snape has none but can't sleep. The way Harry has that ache in his heart, the tugging, pulling him to Snape. Pendragon (and the story of his adoption LOL), Luna and her uncle Xanthus-what a character. A most excellent and satisfying ending. But seriously, it's just a little thing but it went straight through me . . .

"Look... at... me..." Snape had whispered, and Harry had not only looked, he'd seen.

My personal canon in one line. Loved this story. Fantastic fic.

Wonderful. Loved your somewhat clueless Harry and the nice slow progress of the story. Prolly one of my favorites until now... And I've read almost all of them! This is JUST what I needed today (or any other day;)). Thank you Very Much.

Oh that was delightful!
Clueless!Harry was adorable (and is one of my favorite types of Harry). *g*
Clever and supportive!Ron (often a rarity) was great, as was perennially researching!Hermione. How you wrote their banter was excellent, btw, you've a gift for conversations. :)
Resigned!Snape was perfect, as was the adorable kitteh. *pets*
The sex was lovely, and the ending was eminently satisfying.
All in all a lovely story. *happy sigh*
Good job! :)

Oh, I like this very much. Ordinarily, if I'm going to read an h/c Snarry, I want Snape to be the one suffering (because it's usually the only way I can imagine him sitting still for a little cosseting *g*), but in this story, I loved that Harry was the one who was so incapacitated for so long - and that he needed Snape to take care of him. Good premise, nice build up...very well done.

I loved:
-- the problem of Harry being so tired
-- Kreacher as caretaker
-- Luna and her 'common' sense
-- her uncle...and his accommodations
-- Snape as near Squib...and his accommodations
-- Hay-on-Wye...I loved HoW when I visited that part of the world
-- the perfume of bread made at 4 a.m.
-- oven-fresh bread, with butter (I'm easily bought with that as well. Even when I make the bread...never at 4 a.m., however.)
-- the wizard detective in a Muggle world. OMG! Would that detective's name be Harry Dresden by chance? (I had wondered about the writer. Seemed to me that he knew just a few too many Wizardry secrets to be really this person named Jim Butcher.)
-- the resolution...
-- Estonia...because he could. LOL!
-- And they lived happily ever after with Pendragon and the dragon stained-glass window. Oh, and with the chicken. And, I suppose, Kreacher as well, 'cause this Karloff-Kreacher has to have a happy ending as well.

(And I hope that Hermione does take Ron upon his offer to be *her* sex slave. That would be as it should be.)

A really neat idea, very well executed. I liked easier Snape, who has found contentment as well as a way to continue paying for his mistakes (though you might, perhaps, have indicated that he no longer needed that by story's end). I liked your Harry, sobered by an even worse handicap than the loss of magic, who recognises and accepts his own good impulses. And Pendragon was a delightful icing on the cake.

So much else I ought to comment on! But especially Snape's ability to laugh.

I loved every bit of it! That bond, the problems that came with it, the cottage (I totally can imagine Snape living at such a place, and OHH the bread baking!!) Pendragon, the slow build up of their relationship, the sex (Oh yeah, this was totally sexy!), your take on Snape and Harry! This was such an enjoyable read and kept me awake even though I really wanted to go to bed hours ago. :) Thanks for sharing!
