Darling, I've already read this twice since it was posted, and I almost never do that during the Games. I have always believed that as a mod, I have a responsibility to read and comment on every story, even if it is a short comment. This comment is nothing about responsibility; it is pure love.
First of all, allow me to say that I have a tremendous love for The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, both the movie and the tv show. There were many similarities here, but not in a derivative way; instead, it just goes to show the truthful, epic style in which you wrote this.
This story had the same tacit, implied love. Harry and Snape never had to say it aloud. They both knew that it would be a betrayal, of some kind, to steal that moment without touching. They needed that wall to be impenetrable, or the meaning of their lives would fall apart. Snape is the reason Harry cheated; the momentary allure of something to fill that gaping wound, a sop to the pain that only hurt more. It had nothing to do with Ginny, and he wasn't unfaithful to her, but to Snape. That's the truth of where his heart lies, and you needed that beautifully long intro to show it.
The moment in G&MM that broke my young teenaged heart was when she pursued a love with the children's book author, Mr. Fairley. When she discovers that he is married, she's not even hurt. She knew that she belonged to someone else, all that time, and she was as unfair as he was.
I didn't understand, as a teen, why she never saw anyone again, even though the Ghost left. I understand it now, and understand it even more after reading your story.
Love is the ultimate Truth; we can deny it, or hide it, run from it, and pretend to live without it. When it finds us, though, it changes us forever. Harry and Snape's love is so powerful that even Death cannot defeat it. We are made infinite, somehow, with love. It transcends.
Thanks for this wonderful story. I will treasure it.
