for sure! I really love when they take a chance on reading a potential squick and they don't run screaming. heh.
I always tell myself to write the inside of the character - the core, and then it doesn't matter if I write Harry as a vampire, a rentboy, a hasband of ten or any other configuation. No matter what, he should still be identifiable as the Harry we know and love. If that hold true, people will accept whatever hat (or magical creature) he happens to be wearing. :D (I hope that's the case, anyway!)
