1. 'Canon compliant' is a hot button topic in Harry Potter fandom (thanks to all the 'After-Book Specials' JKR is hosting). What is your definition?
I think it’s all pretty much fanon now. JKR’s the biggest fangirl of us all. Heh. In my head, canon is whatever is in the books. All her ‘after’ info is interesting and comes from the ‘source’, as it were, but I don’t mind if fan writers leave it or use it.
2. Has fanfic influenced your writing? If yes, was it a particular story you can name for us?
Most certainly! I’ve always loved creating stories, but for the most part, they stayed up in my head. I wrote poetry and songs, but didn’t really start in on prose until after some friends recommended some HP fanfic to read. After that, I dove in head first. It’s been a wonderful learning journey. I can’t really pin-point one fics that really shaped how I write today, but I will say that Delta’s Parseltongue-Tied was the fic responsible for making me really want to dive into the wild world of Snarry.
3. What element(s) about the relationship between Snape and Harry do you find most intriguing?
The strange and wonderful nature of their relationship makes it joy to write dialogue for them. There are just so many yummy factors that contribute to the way they speak to each other: age, status, education, upbringing, volcanic past experiences, and many more things that I probably won’t find words for. When you have all that at hand, it makes for dialogue gold, and exciting reading.
4. How would Severus Snape find your team mascot most useful?
I really want to steal what Raewhit said about dragon-fire heated rooms. Think of all the money we’d save! :D
On the other claw, I think the poor dragon would end up donating scales, blood, fangs and other dragony fluids to Severus’ ongoing potion needs. Either that, or he’d give the dragon to Harry as a present and delight in whatever chaos ensued. :D
5. What would you consider your greatest strength in writing?
It’s either dialogue, or being able to make the readers fall in love with a genre/kink that may have been a squick for them in the past. It’s funny how many people say "I hate vampire/mpreg/parenting fics, but yours are tolerable." Warms the heart, that.
6. Is there something your beta(s) constantly catch you doing?
If given the choice, my fingers will always type clam when I mean calm, and plam when I want palm. I also have a hideous understanding of semicolon usage. In my defence, I was born with no left brain, so what can you expect, really?
7. Have you ever collaborated/partnered with another author or artist? If yes, please describe it for us. If no, would you consider it?
For One of Your Fathers, I wrote the first and last chapters, and all the middle chapters were written by my fellow authors: daisy_drabbles, silver_ariel, rurounihime, acrylic, lusiology, jadarene, darkasphodel and girlsigh. That was a really fun project.
In Six Days at the Villa, originally written by rurounihime, I co-wrote two chapters. We have a third…and it’s nearly done. I think I’m the one holing it up, but I can’t remember anymore. Shame on me. Ru is wonderful to work with. Her work inspires me, and makes me want to play around in her universes.
I love working with other authors. Two heads, and all that. For me, it breathes new life into writing. There are just so many talented people out there!
8. Now that canon is complete, do you find it more freeing or less when it comes to writing or enjoying fanfic/fanart?
The world is open to us! I say write anything you like. It’ll either fit with canon or it won’t, but there really are no limits to where a fic/art can go.
9. In your opinion, what kind of kink/theme does fandom need more of?
I know everyone feels differently about the epilogue, but I love that it’s opened the door for new generation fic, new cross gen fics, and parenting fics. I don’t think I have to say how much I love seeing that Mpreg isn’t a bad word any more, but I will anyway! :D
Bring on the ghost/portrait/beyond the grave Snarry fics.
Bring on the Snarry!Daddy fics!
And if you could manage to add some more established relationship D/s Snarry fics too, I would be very appreciative. *lick*
10. How do you feel about participating in this year's Snarry Games?
Dude! It’s almost better than sushi! Have you seen my team? They totally rock! (and I guess the other team is rather shiny too)
I’m so looking forward to the battle. Thank you for this second chance to fly the Snarry banner with pride!
Thank you, dacro! Stay tuned for more interviews and Crack!Art
