We can never know about the days to come...
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the contributors to the 2007 Summer Art Games.
All of you have played an important role in supporting these Games, starting from the fans who followed us over from Livejournal and voted and commented, up to and including the Artists who contributed. Some of you have stood out, going above and beyond the call of duty - I will have a special thank you later in the week for you.
I am using this opportunity of the lull during the counting process because whether or not your team wins the Silver or the Gold, you all deserve the accolades of a job fantastically done!
Although the initial results are in, we are waiting for confirmation before proceeding. We do expect to have the Closing Games Medal Ceremony sometime this weekend, likely Sunday, 11th November.
It has been our pleasure to once again host these games, designed to both promote the Severus Snape/Harry Potter relationship in fandom, and herald the grand re-opening of the Walking The Plank website. We had also hoped to build a sense of camaraderie, unity and pride within our community - participating in these Games, no matter the level, has hopefully made you feel a part of them.
Initially the Games were designed to spotlight the best and brightest (a la the Olympics), though we soon found that some of our greatest contributions were from the up and coming; the newest fans of Snarry. In this, we are most pleased at the enthusiastic response, and hope to nurture these new 'stars'. We look forward to seeing even more so in the future, as we open up the future Games to more general sign ups.
Our little idea, adapted from another and then expanded upon, morphing and changing as we received feedback, and as JKR closed canon, has inspired many other wonderful fandom fests: the McShep Match, The Triatha-Ron, the upcoming HPDM World Cup, with more on the way, even one in Hungarian! They are all most welcome affiliates who have adapted our model to their own ships and needs, and we look forward to being partners with future fests.
Our one dark spot this year was Livejournal's inability to properly establish a Terms of Service that is both coherent and concrete, and forced us to move from our comfort zone to the most welcoming InsaneJournal. The Games has always been careful about the legal ramifications of portraying (fictional) characters as underage, mostly out of respect to those fen who must be careful, but we still felt that it was necessary to protect ourselves from Livejournal by moving here. The SixApart people had already asserted their power over us, making us drop the word "Olympics" from our fest, forcing dozens of volunteers to work around the clock with a 48 hour time limit to save our Games by removing every instance of that word in our already one year old community. We thank those volunteers, once again.
The mods, volunteers and the Champions that worked extra hard for their teams this round will be singled out this weekend, previous to the Medal Ceremony, in appreciation.
In the meantime, thank you ALL so much for your participation and support. See you soon!
