A/N: With huge apologies to Ali. I should have posted this nearly a week ago, but real life has clobbered me. I was intending to write more in this series, but.....
With another lazy swipe at the bar in front of him, Jake kept a close eye on the two gentlemen at the shadowy back table. It was difficult to read much more than body language.
The younger man held himself stiff, arms uncrossing only to sip his drink. The older man, though sitting straight, had a weary air about him. His hands were splayed on the table; his gestures were minimal.
Their voices had risen precisely once, and Jake had the sense that only great restraint prevented a repeat occurrence. Jake hoped they took their argument out of his bar.
