Sevvy ran ahead of Daddy and Lulu, his green boots making crunchy noises in the snow. They bought a slidey thing yesterday as a present for Lulu and Sevvy was going to show her how it worked. Sevvy grinned, that was what big brothers did Papa told him.
With a sharp gasp, Sevvy tripped and fell, sliding into a pile of snow that covered his head. Before he could get scared, something grabbed his coat and tugged him out. Severus brushed the snow out of his eyes to see his shaggy friend from Hogsmeade.
“Dadamedawde!” ~ Daddy, it’s my doggy!
Harry smiled as Sevvy run ahead and he followed pulling Laurel on the sled. Neither he nor Severus had ever been sledding growing-up, but their children know how fun it was.
Losing sight of Sevvy, Harry sped up, only to slide to an abruptly stop with a sharp gasp. For a second, Harry imagined he saw his godfather bending over Sevvy. He blinked and the black dog they’d encountered yesterday was standing protectively beside Sevvy.
“Dadamedawde!” Sevvy said excitedly.
Shaking his head, Harry knelt and held out his hand. “Perhaps we’ll call you Padfoot.”
Padfoot barked approvingly and Sevvy squealed.
Laurel felt like she was riding on the air as the big black thing pulled them around. This sled-thing was fun and Daddy’d made it so she was nice and warm, even in the cold snow-stuff. Sevvy sat behind her, holding her tight, laughing and babbling as they slid over the whiteness. Daddy ran beside them, his cheeks pink and eyes glowing, sometimes even riding with them. He squealed and laughed like Sevvy did!
Laurel wanted Papa to be there, so they could all ride and laugh. Papa laughed quieter than Daddy, but when Papa laughed, they were all delighted.
Severus found his family on a gentle slope of the grounds, sledding. The sight of the sled being pulled by a large dog made him gasp sharply. When the dog saw him, it stopped and Severus eyed it warily. It truly resembled Black’s Animagus form. Tilting its head, the dog rolled over, presenting its belly.
“An improvement, at least,” Severus remarked before relenting, tentatively scratching it.
“Papa!” Little Severus squealed, running to him. “Pay!”
Severus scooped him up, throwing him gently in the air. “Play indeed, my little serpent.”
The love shining in his son’s eyes mirrored Harry’s, warming him.
