“Still up?”
Severus rolled his eyes, but did not falter in the steady rhythm of his stirring.
“As you can see,” he replied.
“What are you working on so diligently?” Harry asked, eyeing the bubbling cauldron carefully.
“A surprise,” Severus said succinctly.
“Will I like it?”
A pause. “I certainly hope so. I do not routinely enjoy sleep deprivation, Harry.”
“Then, I thank you in advance, Severus.”
Harry wandered away, and Severus smirked as he stirred the Pregnancy Potion. He would be interested to see if his husband was as grateful when he ended up having to carry their children.

Days blurred into night and into days again, and still they hounded him. When they moved him to where day and night were the same, such considerations became superfluous.
Blood ran from his wrists where the chains rubbed him raw, and yet, the questions continued, about Dumbledore, and the Ministry, and Potter, always Potter.
Severus never spoke of Potter, but that was difficult, given the sleep deprivation he’d been submitted to.
Finally, he saw that scarred face, thinking it another hallucination. Even the strong arms surrounding him proved nothing. Until he sniffed Potter’s smell, unique to him.
Rescued, Severus slept.

“The food won’t disappear, Harry.”
Harry paused mid swallow; his hand, which had been on its way to his mouth, froze.
“Sorry,” he said, quickly putting the piece of toast down.
Severus cursed softly.
“No, I didn’t mean that you should not eat,” he said. “I meant that you should eat slowly. I promised that there would always be food, didn’t I? Don’t you trust me?”
“With my life,” Harry murmured. “But it’s still a hard habit to overcome.”
Severus’ eyes softened slightly. “I know. Still, please trust me on this. You will never starve again.”
Harry nodded and ate slowly.

Harry shivered, closing his eyes in the hope that that would help, but it only magnified the sensation of the walls closing in.
His stomach rumbled. He was always hungry now.
He thought bitterly about the betrayal that had caused this. Bad enough that Snape had seduced him so thoroughly, so completely...
The door opened, light hitting Harry’s face, making him squint.
“Ready to talk?”
Harry licked cracked lips. His inner voice screamed at him to say whatever it took to get food and out.
He said nothing, and Snape locked him in again. There were worse things than hunger.
