Flying over darkened skies the battle will call
Characters: Luna, Neville, Nimue and Gawain
Summary: The family that sticks together, survives together.
Neville stood in the kitchen, absently eating one of the twins' rusks while balancing Nimue on his hip. She was in the process of eating her own biscuit, although much of it was becoming a crumbly mush around her mouth, with the odd spot or two on Neville's shirt. They were both waiting for Gawain and Luna to join them, Gawain having decided yet again that morning that his mother should be the one to dress him.
Having finished her biscuit, Nimue looked up at her father and patted a mush-covered hand against his chest. "Dada... gone."
Roused from his daydreams, Neville looked down at her. "I think most of it is still here and on my shirt," he responded tolerantly, reaching for a cloth. "Yes, just hold on," he added, when she began twisting in his arms in an attempt to get down before she was properly clean. While she was content to stay still while she was eating and able to watch the garden out of the window, it was never very long before she wanted to be off exploring something new.
"You know, we're going somewhere exciting today," Neville told her as he lowered her to the floor. For a moment he held her up, to see if she would try walking a few steps, but crawling, it seemed, was a much quicker way to investigate the far corners of the kitchen tiles.
Luna bounced Gawain on her hip as she entered the kitchen. His happy giggles at the bouncing turned to shrieks when he saw his sister on the floor, and he windmilled his arms in her direction as he leaned out of Luna's arms. "No, dumpling, we're going somewhere as soon as Daddy catches your sister. You'll like it. There'll be lots of things going on and lots of pretty girls to convince to give you kisses." She gave Neville a quick smile and held tight to Gawain. She hadn't put Nimue down; no way was she going to find herself being the one to chase her around the kitchen now.
Neville let out a huff of laughter as he finished wiping down his shirt with the cloth he had cleaned Nimue up with. Once done, he risked a quick drying spell on the damp patch. Thankfully it worked, rather than setting the shirt alight.
"Right, Petal," he declared to his errant daughter. "Time to go to the fair. They'll be things there even more interesting than the cat flap." He slowly approached Nimue with exaggerated steps. Hearing him coming, she giggled and immediately set off in a new direction. She squealed with excitement when he darted after her and swept her up, raising her high in the air before catching her close again.
Daughter successfully captured, Neville claimed a kiss from Luna, bestowed another upon his demanding son's cheek, and snagged the changing bag.
After another quick peck to Neville's lips, Luna wrapped her arm around his waist and Apparated the four of them to the festival grounds in Hogsmeade.
