Maybe it was good that they'd both waited until now to do something -- to do them, this. Whatever this was. Because there'd been a time, a long long stretch of time, where Tony would not have been able to see what Steve needed, where he would not have been willing to listen. But he was there now, and he was glad for it.
Tony stopped a bit before Steve did, still wary of animals he couldn't recognize straight away. Part of him said, that was either a tiger or a dog or maybe both and that he ought to be a little concerned about that. And apparently part of Steve said lemme go pet that.
Steve was right, in the end, when the -- thing. Dog, Tony was going to say it was a dog -- sniffed and then head-butted at Steve's hand like it was demanding petting.
And Tony knew how that went, frankly. He was pretty sure he'd done the same thing at one point. Except in a less possible-pet capacity. "I think he likes you." Which was just -- heart meltingly cute. It really was.
