Thank you! I debated for quite a while over whether to send Severus back, or bring Godric forward in time. I might try it the other way sometime.

Oh wow! I wondered how you were going to pull this off, Mystery Author, but pull it off you did. I'm a sucker for time travel fic and wizarding world history, so this story was pure id delight for me. I really enjoyed the interaction between Godric and Severus and the way this fit behind the scenes of canon.

Thank you! Time travel is fun to write, and I love writing fiction that can be slipped into the exiting canon.

This was lovely! I enjoyed the historical detail and to witness the founding of Hogwarts. And I adore the ambiguous ending. (Ambiguous in that I can't help believing that Severus will use that time turner again. :)

Yes, we all cherish the idea that Severus escaped his fate and went on to terrorize another few generations of Hogwarts students! The historical detail was fun to work with. I had the most trouble with the "chimney piece." Darned if I could find out when fireplace mantels were invented.

Oh! Oh! Mystery Author! You wrote me Snape/Godric! ::flaily flail:: I haven't even read it yet and I love it already. ;)

Okay, so. At the moment I'm completely up to my ears in... stuff that is sadly not fest reading. But I'm almost caught up. I'm going to come back and read this when I can sit back with a cup of good coffee (though by then I might need decaff...) and give it the attention it deserves. I'll be back very soon!!

Whew, back! Apologies for taking so long, but things have been a bit nuts here, and I really did want to wait until I could enjoy this properly! So now that I have...

First, I really like the set-up for this. Voldemort being the one to send Severus back -- and for this purpose especially -- isn't an idea I'd have ever come up with.

There's so much fantastic detail and descriptive writing throughout this! And you've handled all of these little details deftly rather than beating us over the head with them; nice. You set the scene vividly with just one little paragraph when Severus first enters the past; I can really see and hear the scene. Ditto with the later description of the inn. And you've started developing Godric's character and hinting at the coming encounter between him and Severus with just a couple of lines. I wish I were so efficient in my writing. ;)

Oh! Translation charm, yay! It always gnaws at the logic center in my brain a bit when people visit different time periods and there's no comment at all on the language difference, much less explanation as to how they can communicate. LOL Haha, and the attire! I got a giggle over Severus' smirkiness at being able to blend in his normal clothes.

I loved that Godric already knew who Severus was. Great "OMG, what's going on?!" reader snag there. ;D And then Dumbledore having been there previously. Hee, everything in the wizarding world is so intricately tied together with threads all over the place, innit? Oh, and I just bet Godric knows Severus' face. Kind of a hard face to miss or forget. LOL

Your characterization of Godric is just fab. He's true to the qualities that his House is later said to represent -- brave, chivalrous, generous, honorable -- without the baggage that seems to come with being a Gryffindor in Severus' time. A "true, pure" Gryffindor, figuratively and literally. Heh.

Oh, maaaaan! Seductus interruptus! Talk about UST! Aaaaaaarrgh! LMAO

Ha, and there's Severus showing his Gryffindor qualities as well. I bet Godric would never guess he's in Slytherin's House. ;) Great tension in the whole emergency situation and political upheaval and flight from the castle. Severus grabbing Godric and Disapparating with him -- heee, go Severus!

Ohhh, yes, now where were we before we were so rudely interrupted by someone's murder? LOL I love that Severus has that moment of realization and awe over who he's actually with. And then... alvuahavofljan, bottom!Snape FTW! \o/

Severus stood staring at the great cornerstone. So this was it. No precious objects, no magical runes or mystic enchantments, just the love of four people for what they believed in. How could he explain that to Lord Voldemort, who loved nothing and nobody?

Hee, I just adore this! It's so completely true to canon in a conceptual sense. The magical powers that love bestows -- and Voldemort's utter lack of understanding of it.

Oh, aaaack, and of course Severus would leave! His own sense of duty and loyalty would totally require him to return to his own time. ::nod:: And oh, oh, oh, holy cow, the ending! Knowing what's about to happen, and... gahhhh! Wonderful, wonderful stab to the gut there. Gah. Severus' story is so tragic, but we're all sorta used to that, aren't we? I feel so much for poor Godric, who'll spend the rest of his life wondering why Severus hasn't returned, and hoping that maybe one day he will, and waiting for him... Whaaaaa!! Gah, gah, gah, niiiice.

...Although...!!! Severus still had the special Time-Turner! So I'm gonna assume that he used it at the last possible moment, arrived at the newly constructed Hogwarts in time for the Founders to find and heal him, and resumed his romance with Godric -- in relative peace now that his job in his own time is done, and without the burden of at least part of (the worst of?) his memories and feelings about Lily. And, hey, if he takes over in Salazar's place at some point, even better. ;D

OMG, yay, Mystery Author, you tackled a difficult pairing and did it fantastically! When I started reading, I thought I might have a guess at who you were, but now I don't have a clue. LOL So I'm looking forward to reveals. THANK YOU! ♥

My pleasure, believe me, and I am very glad that you enjoyed it. It's interesting to work with a character like Godric, because he's essentially an original character. We don't know anything about him, except that he presumably embodies the traits that the Sorting Hat looks for in candidates for his House. I tried to strike a balance between a noble character and a practical man. Writing about medieval times is a challenge because it's pretty darned grotty, dirty, and uncomfortable. Still, people do rise above their environments and I think that Godric is one who did. I felt pretty depressed about him waiting for Severus to come back too, and I hope that Severus managed it. They make a great couple!

Oh, well done! You write with a nice archaic cadence, and I love the way you manage the time-travel. Having Albus prepare the way for Severus is an excellent touch. There are so many fun elements: early Hogsmeade, the complicated medieval politics, the plans for the squid, the story about the origins of the pensieve. I also love the simplicity of the "secret" Severus has been sent to discover. A clever, original story.

Thank you very much! I had a choice of medieval events to consider, but the rather mysterious death of the boy king seemed made to order.

Thank you! It would be interesting to have Severus use the time turner again, and collapse in front of that little procession on its way to the chapel. I wonder what the courtiers' response would be.

Very well done. You did a great job of taking Severus back to the time of the Founders. And Severus still has the time turner in his pocket at the end. Here's hoping that he actually used it.

Thank you! I am a devout Severus Snape admirer and I'm convinced that he found a way to escape the fate that Voldemort planned for him.
