Friday rec: Snonks!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Took a break from fic writing today, to try out some different shipping options for Severus (just for the heck of it). My fevered brain happened upon the idea of Snape/Tonks, thought it would be amusing, and went in search of fic. Found some and some art too...they amused me greatly (I LOL'd at the fic - go read it, it's funny), so...I share. :)

Title: Whine
Characters: Snape/Tonks
Author: kerrymdb
Prompt: wine
Rating: T
Genre: humour
Word Count: 1,800 words
Summary: Being stuck in a dark wine cellar with a beautiful witch is most men's dream. But Severus Snape is certainly not most men…
Author’s Notes: Set during Order of the Phoenix. This was written for [info]colourful_bat's Winter Solstice Challenge.

Link to teh fic: http://kerrymdb.livejournal.com/306454.html#cutid1

Here's some art (it's really cute, and there's some Snupin in there too): http://xterm.livejournal.com/118721.html#cutid1

Enjoy fellow Snapers, and if anyone has any favorite Snonks recs, please do lay them on me. ;)

Friday Recs

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Haven't done recs for a while so this time I thought I'd do something a little different. I want to rec two comms.

The first, [info]severus_sighs is all Snape, all the time. They are currently posting how each of the authors sees their Snape. It's really marvelous to see so many different versions of the character we all love.

The second is [info]daily_deviant. Here is the character tag for Severus.

In the last few months there have been several pieces of gorgeous art-I am particularly enamoured of NWS Snarry Writhe by [info]fanlay and NWS Snupin Pull it Tight by [info]acatnamedeaster.

Also found, a myriad of delicious fic pairings-[info]r_grayjoy's Snupin Everything He Has to Give, [info]purplefluffycat's Severus/Albus//Severus/Albus/Minerva Dinner and a Show, and [info]snegurochka_lee's marvelous Snack Kinky, With a Bit of Discipline.

Break out the smelling salts for this Severus/Lily rec! ;)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I took a break from writing fic and the Oct. essay, to read some fic, and stumbled upon this:

Title: Lilies Are Red, Roses Are Blue (on [info]less_for_you, the Lily Evans/Severus Snape anonymous exchange)
Author: [info]elethian
Rating: NC-17
Words: ~5,500
Warnings: Sexual activity between teenagers (who are of age in their jurisdiction); gratuitous ignoring of canon; fluff; extreme sappiness; Severus being too pretty; no nutritional value.
Summary: Best friends? Maybe so, but clearly there have been some other thoughts occurring on both sides as well.

Must. Rec. Fic. I think this might be my favorite NC-17 Snily so far. I'm a sucker for smutty fluff. :)

Snape/Percy rec

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I know it's shocking, but I'm reccing something other than a Snupin for a change! ;-) A friend steered me towards this fic, an older one written for the 1996 Percy Ficathon:

Title: The librarian of Strahov (on the author's journal; the story can also be found here on the Percy Ficathon LJ)
Author: [info]sarka (written for jamiebluesq)
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Percy/Snape, mention of Percy/Marcus Flint and Ron/Hermione
Word Count: 8,346 words

Shameless Self Promotion *puts pimp hat on*

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
It's Friday and I'm still busy reading all the fanfic I've seen recced, so I'll just pimp my own stuff today...not that I've done all that much that is published yet (still working on my longer fanfics and an essay for the October Challenge).

Anyway *toss* http://sailorlum.livejournal.com/tag/snape

There's some icons, a fan art, and a drabble (Snape gen).

Welcome new community Severus *Sighs*

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
After it's first successful year as a yahoo group, [info]severus_sighs  has come to IJ and Dreamwidth, and launched with a fountain of beautiful drabbles on the theme of Anniversary.

Dedicated to our favorite Potions Master, tending toward slashy, and populated by clever, articulate witches from all 4 houses, the banter on yahoo is good fun, and the writing is passionate and worthy of a Half Blood Prince.

Go have a read!

Friday Recs

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I have been regularly reccing [info]snarry_games (and anything else that floats my boat) on my own journal but I really wanted to point out [info]gingertart50's marvelous crossover with Sherlock Holmes, The Fourth Deathly Hallow.

For one thing, it is just Snarry enough to keep a fangirl like me happy but if Snarry isn't your cuppa, you can blink here and there, missing much of it if you want to.

The real point is this is just a wonderful tale, told from Dr. Watson's POV and [info]gingertart50 just absolutely nails the Holmesian feel of the time period. It really is exquisite. I hope maybe a few of you non-Snarry fen will give it a try.

(Tags for my fic recs and art recs if you want to see what else there is.)

Posting a friday fic rec on behalf of Hwyla

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I'm posting this fic rec on Hwyla's behalf, as she doesn't havr an LJ or IJ. It was originally posted as a comment on my entry: "Snape and his women". The rec below is taken verbatim from Hwyla's comment.
Rec for The Birthday Present by excessivelyperky.
EDIT: Totalreadr from LL has asked me to add a prostitution warning, and I'd like to direct you to her comment about sex/romance below. Thanks totalreadr - I appreciate people pointing me to warnings that have been missed.
Also warning for abuse including sexual abuse, and angst.
Elethian also points out that the fic is a massive total of ~800,000 words - see Elethian's comment below.

[...] I thought that since I was reminded of the fic I want to suggest by this subject (Snape's friendships - with Minerva and Poppy in particular) I would post it here in this section. In other words, these posts here are what reminded me of this particular fic. And a great deal of the fic is about Snape beginning to understand what it means to have true friends and truly BELIEVE they CARE for him (not pity him). It is also about the people who care for him, opening their eyes and truly seeing HIS situation.

It's AU since she began it just before HBP (bk6) and finished it just around the time DH (bk7) came out. So, canon up to the end of OotP (bk5). Because of this, Snape's background is different but with a few similarities (pureblood, but grew up on Knockturn Alley, still poor, but I'll let you read it to see the difference in abuse, etc.) And has one of the most original ideas I've read for Snape's 'nasty' disposition.

I read it faithfully, as it came out - week by week (more or less) have reread it several times since then and cried over it many times. No love interests for Snape, no lemony sex - mention of very underage slash with undertones of abuse and also of outright sexual abuse pre-Hogwarts.

Hope some of you might enjoy it! -- Hwyla

Friday Rec: Two Fanvids - by lzqsk

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I'm posting the links to lzqsk's blog where she has several links to the two fanvids she made: Poison Prince and Gone forever. lzqsk is a new Underground member from Bejing and asked me to post this for her. Just scroll down on the blog and you'll get to the links.

And here is the link: http://lzqsk.blog100.fc2.com/blog-entry-138.html

The toudou link worked fine for me, you'll have to see which one works for you.
I think Izqsk will be able to reply to comments here.

Enjoy.

ETA: Sorry, had to edit the link in, am pretty brain dead today. Just call her Doris, I had the name wrong, too.

Snupin art/fic rec, and recs from the snarry_games

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
It's been a quiet week (or maybe it just seems that way becasue I've been a little unwell.) Here are some snarry_games recs, and a rec for a now-completed snupin multi-chaptered illustrated story that is guaranteed to make you smile - the story is wonderful, and the art is great (points to pretty icon).

Art rec: kyla79

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
This week's rec ties in with [info]missjesselle's post below. Like [info]missjesselle, I was pretty disappointed with Deathly Hallows. The artist I am reccing today had a completely different experience: she loved the last book in the Potter series to bits. Snape's part in it inspired her to draw a series of illustrations. It took people like her to remind me that my disillusionment with the overall story shouldn't blind me to the opportunities and dramatic elements JKR served us. Canon is a fanficcer and fanartist's paradise :-).

kyla79 is a young professional comics artist who publishes under the name of Mara. Her first comic book, Clues, was published last year by the small and equally young French publisher Akileos, which has a special place in my heart because they publish the French translations of such favourites as Eric Shanower's Age of Bronze and Ted Naifeh's Courtney Crumrin - but I digress. Those among you who read French might find it worthwhile to check out Clues, because of its delectable, snarky, hooknosed Inspector Hawkins. Just saying.

kyla79 is one of those artists whose style looks deceptively simple but isn't. She is a good storyteller with a keen eye for composition and atmosphere, and I love what she does with colour. I have to confess that I am not a great fan of digital art, because it often looks cold and lacks texture. kyla79 achieves what I think is a nicely balanced effect by combining pencils, watercolour and Photoshop, using the watercolours to give texture to her digital colouring.

That, and she does a great Snape.

I am reccing the whole bunch of DH pictures at once, because together they tell a story.

Enjoy!

A two years belated word of thanks and a mini self-pimp

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hello everyone, well I finally got an IJ account so I decided to head over to this community and belatedly thank you all for lightening my mood after the release of Deathly Hallows which disappointed me so much on so many levels. I can't believe it's been two years already.

And just to make this post a little more legitimate, I give you this little fic I wrote at that time:

THE OTHER WORLD (click)
rating: PG
words: 2994
characters: Severus Snape, others mentioned
genre: general, humor
summary: Some time after the events of the Deathly Hallows, Severus Snape gets a look at his own, very much unauthorized, biography

Keep cool, Snapedom!

Art rec: Dr Mabuse

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
This is the second of my deviantART recs, and - let's say it's an unusual one, especially for me :-).

Dr Mabuse is a professional artist and designer whose Potter fanart consists entirely of ... SS/HG pictures. Those who know my fannish tastes will be aware of the fact that I am not at all into SS/HG. BUT Dr Mabuse's pictures are so wonderful that I find myself adding SS/HG images to my favourites.

I don't think Dr Mabuse is at all known at the LJ end of fandom, and his art is not to be missed, especially for those of you (and I know you are many) who do like his ship of choice.

I'm not entirely sure what rating to give the pictures. Though there is little by way of exposed flesh and no sexual action at all, I do find the images rather charged (- that may just be me). Hermione is clearly very young and entirely innocent-looking, but for me that does throw quite a bit of suspicion on Snape's moral fibre. What you get are cute and really charming pictures that refer to Kate Greenaway and other old-school illustrators - but as a viewer you know that the situation isn't quite as innocent as it looks at first. Dr Mabuse, for his part, insists that his Hermione is a youthful-looking adult and that "only good things happen here". But, dear doctor, that's not necessarily what it looks like... Mind you, the contrast between Severus and Hermione is really what makes these pictures so special and strong.

So I guess my rating would be, "G, but..." :-)

Media: pen and ink with watercolour.

Have you tried the cake?

ETA:
Some of the reactions to these pictures are rather more fierce than I expected them to be. If I had known they would cause such a stir, I would not have linked to them at all. It was never my intention to shock or offend. Now that I appear to have done so, I would like to offer up for reflection a quote from a book more than 100 years old.
