This is Bohemian Spirit, warming the house for Severus

With the Minnesota winter slowly thawing into spring, I just might emerge from hibernation and get online again on a regular basis. ;-) Fortunately, I appear to be still in time to add my bit of confetti to the housewarming party for Snapedom at IJ, so HUZZAH!!!

A brief introduction: On LJ, I am bohemianspirit. That is, at least as of this writing, my home base online, my Blog Central, as it were. Should LJ prove wholly intolerable and unbusinesslike, I will move my Blog Central to WordPress or Blogger or anywhere that doesn't suck, but I shall remain Bohemianspirit wherever I wander. I also have an IJ under the name of [info]bohemianspirit, but I use that one mainly as an archive (sorely in need of updating) for my Snapefics, with one exception: [info]severus_evans, my epic work-in-progress Severus-centric AU rewrite of the entire 7-volume HP series.

Why the hell not.

When I am on IJ, I am almost always logged in as [info]severus_evans, either to update the story or reply to comments on the story. Thus some of my posts to Snapedom may appear as "Severus_Evans" rather than as "Bohemianspirit," because I'm just too lazy to log out and log back in. But I am still, and will remain, Bohemianspirit, so please don't confuse me with the protagonist of my story. He would not want you to do so. ;-)

Finally, as a Housewarming Gift, here's a snippet from the most recently posted chapter of "Severus Evans" neatly illustrates my view of the relationship between Dumbledore and Severus. Even in AU, Dumbledore is still a manipulative prick. In my humble opinion, of course.

(From Chapter 11: "Eminently Fair Evans" of Year One: Severus Evans and the Impudent Brat)

"Thank you ever so much for informing Harry of the date of my birth."

Dumbledore looked up from his reading. "He's your son, Severus."

"Awfully good of you to recognize that." Severus seated himself across from Dumbledore. "A decade late, but better late than never."

"Have you been monitoring Professor Quirrell, Severus?"

"No, I'm a bloody half-arsed fool blithely ignoring a blatant threat to the life of my son."

"Good. Good." Dumbledore reached for a lemon sherbet and slipped it into his mouth.

"I want to referee the next Quidditch match."

Dumbledore raised his eyebrows, looking up at Severus over the top of the journal he was reading. "Do you think that is advisable, Severus?"

"Yes. I want to be close at hand, to protect Harry."

"I see." Dumbledore nodded. "Understandable, but have you given thought to how it will look to... certain others?"

"I couldn't care less how it looks," spat Severus. "I want my son to live."

Dumbledore nodded. "Very well, Severus. I think you show prudence--only do be careful not to give the least hint of favoritism towards Gryffindor."

Severus snorted.

Time and Muse willing, I will write a proper essay about Severus and Dumbledore for the March challenge! The problem isn't a lack of anything to say, but trying to sort it all out and condense it into one small essay.... Anyone else having that problem? :-D
  • *warms hands of the toasty welcoming fire*

hell yes! I have plenty of thoughts about the whole mess, but my queue is so full of work and fests and drabbles and dogs, and i find that writing really intelligent meta, which I want to do for this esteemed audience, is slow going for me. in short, it takes longer than I think it will, and I dont have the patience.

I guess my fandom agenda at the moment is to draw/paint more, and write slashy ficlets, so I never get around to much intelligent analysis.
    • Heh. I know the feeling; we have such a good group of people here, I don't want to throw out just any old sloppy slap-dash piece. On the other hand, I do have a life, and I suspect I will simply write something that is shorter and less comprehensive than I would like it to be.
  • Ooh, very intriguing snippet! I love the bit you chose to end on! Severus favor Gryffindor. *snicker*
    • Thank you! In the AU, he does have a son in Gryffindor, but even so, suggesting he would favor Gryffindor is more than a bit of a stretch. ;-) He tries to be "fair" and "without partiality"--taking his canon traits to a stronger degree, here--but of course everyone has underlying biases, however "fair" they try to be...
