I no longer remember who pointed me towards the following fic. It's entirely possible someone rec'd it here. If so, apologies to that original poster and consider this a second endorsement for this fic:
The Birthday Present by excessivelyperky

VERY long gen fic, Snape-centric and Slytherin POV of events post-OotP, and completely disregards HBP and DH. I spent 2 1/2 weeks on this fic so be prepared to give up your social life for the duration! Very compelling story with just a hint of future SSHG if you really pay attention.
I'm primarily a Snape/Granger fan, a pairing which is rarely represented in Friday recs. I've never seen discouragement for SSHG recs here, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Here are some of my favorites from last winter's SSHG Gift Exchange:
The Life Unlived by sshg316
http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_e xchange/153466.html
Hermione experiences visions of a different life. Includes a very different backstory for Severus.
Harbinger by bambu345
http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_e xchange/145045.html
Mysterious happenings at Hogwarts. Harry and Hermione, now aurors, must investigate. A very unique Snape Lives premise.
The Marriage Benefit (or) How Granger And Snape Buggered The Ministry, The Board Of Governors, Minerva And The Entire Hogwarts Staff Whilst Finding True Love by miamadwyn
http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_e xchange/148098.html
A new teacher's salary compensation causes Severus and Hermione to join forces.
Note: For some reason the links didn't work, so I've added the urls for each fic. What's up IJ?

However, just a reminder (as it was pointed out to me) there are a few things that should have pre-warnings....
There is 'kind of' sex for Snape with a married woman (altho' he is not physically even in the same room). There are also scenes of prostitution (tho' no real intercourse takes place). Most upsetting to me was the idea of VERY YOUNG sexual abuse - first by a much older man to a very young child and then a first year with a 5th or 6th year. And then discussion of the use of sex for the purpose of spying.
There are however some wonderful ideas in this fic - and I think everyone will like the wizarding perspective on muggle self-help books. I read this fic as it was a WIP and have since reread it several times. And I love watching the Gryffindor students finding out that not everyone thinks they are great. -- Hwyla
Yes, all the abuses Snape suffered were just heartbreaking. And more than just the sexual; Dumbledore's actions, no matter how hard he tried otherwise, ended up being more hurtful than anyone should bear.
As for the future SSHG, I may be seeing something not intended simply because it's my OTP. I saw it in the physical description of his children in his vision, especially in the boy with curly hair. We all tend to see the things we want to see!
I'm more than a little intrigued to see that the two of you have different opinions on the future pairings for the story - it must be a good, well-presented story to allow those different impressions without losing any plot strength.
And it occurs to me that this is one of the joys of reccing - you rec a story, and someone who read that rec goes on to rec iit further. Spreading the joy/appreciation.
Hope you get the chance to rec again - the stories look like a great selection.
