Friday recs...
To prove that I really have been in a depressing mood glum hibernation this week, there's only a few recs. But there's art as well as fic today, yay!
SNARRY:
This was written some time ago but only read by me this week. It's an extraordinary piece of writing - the writing quality is excellent, and the content incredibly moving.
Odyseuss's Last Days by amand_r.
Rating: pg-13
Warning/s: [major] character death; [suicide].
Summary: "He certainly hadn't predicted that the happy ending he'd dug out of the dirt, the blackness of his own self, the one he'd compromised so much for, would have dissipated with something as harmless as a plunge from a low bridge. Because it's not the fall that would have killed him. It would have been the sudden stop, or the rushing water, or a sharp stone to the skull, things that any wizard worth his salt could have got out of, if he'd wanted to."
I came completely undone with this story - because of the content, I can't really talk about too much. Let me just say, this is one of the bravest and most extraordinary stories I have ever read. If you can cope with the content, do not miss this one!
FROM THE SNARRY_GAMES:
The Fourth Deathly Hallow by gingertart50.
Rating: pg
Warning/s: none
Summary: From the private journal of John. H. Watson MD; not intended for publication. Being an account of the strange case of the Fourth Deathly Hallow; in which Dr John H. Watson and Mr Sherlock Holmes save a life, discover the true secret of Professor Moriarty, unravel a time loop or two, encounter a femme fatale, imbibe potions, break into and out of a wizarding mansion, hide in a male brothel, go shopping, track down a magical artefact, almost attend a ritual sacrifice, fail to be Obliviated and totally ignore the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy of 1692, all in the company of a lank-haired, irascible but secretly besotted schoolmaster, a bemused aristocrat and an increasingly perceptive and enamoured young hero.
This story is wonderful - definitely one of the best of this years snarry_games.
Incredibly satisfying - both as an astonishingly plausible Sherlocke Holmes story, and as a delicious snarry. Entertaining (Dr Holmes' narration is such a treat) and so enjoyable - this truly is a standout among all the wonderful snarry stories and art at the games.
Now if I can only remember what the snarry art for this week is....will return a little later with the art rec! ...it will have to be included in next week's recs because I can't find the *@#%** thing!
SNUPIN:
Star Quest: Close Encounters by Arionhrod and McKay.
Rating: R
Warning/s: non-magical AU, past child abuse, past child molestation
Summary: Antics at a science fiction convention make Severus see his co-star in a new and different light.
A/N: This was inspired by two different events: John Barrowman's reaction to being kissed by David Tennant and Misha bending Jared over. [Just had to add the author's notes.]
Aroinhrod and McKay have done it again! Written a non-magic AU that is a delight to read - and it's an absolutely brilliant idea for a non-magic au! It works really well, it wonderfully well-written and entertaining.
Remus' pain as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse was well-handled, convincing and sad. It was marvelous watching that playful bounciness in his character becoming the expression of inner joy, rather than a mask/shield. And ware the warnings: it's not graphic - Remus' background is deftly and delicately handled, but it's there.
Another way to be free by osmalic.
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: some blood but uncolored.
A lovely piece of art by osmalic - with a delightfully skinny Severus (must admit I have an aversion to a gym-built Severus.) Remus is intensely focused and Severus is enraptured. Beautiful - do go and have a look and leave the artist a little love!

Thank you for the lovely rec!
Apologies that it's such a short rec/review - generally I do try to discuss recs in a little more detail. It's certainly not a reflection of my opinion of your story, I think the story is marvelous.
