I can't even attempt to apply logic to the last book: it became obvious that JKR was just finishing the series any old how and didn't really care too much about internal consistency.
After two years, that's more or less my conclusion, too: JKR just wanted to be done with it. Been there, done that, myself, albeit not for a multimillion-dollar epic series. ;-) Had I been the author of a multimillion-dollar epic series, I'd be more likely to go on retreat in a remote location for six months or a year, to focus on making the last book the best possible conclusion to the series. Given that kind of fame and potential future readership, I'd exercise the privileges of fame and adulation to buy me time and space to do the thing right, even if it took me five years.
Of course, having the last film(s) hanging in the balance could make that difficult... but something with that kind of readership, fame, and impact, I just couldn't see saying, oh, hell, whatever, I just want this done and overwith, good enough. And that's how an awful lot of DH reads.
In DH, I did like the revelation of Severus Snape as a real, three-dimensional human being capable of loving and weeping and really feeling, vs. the stoic emotionless facade he tried (not always with success) to project in public. It's much more interesting and satisfying to work with than either Unmitigatedly Nasty Heartless Bastard Snape or Swooning Romantic Figure Suave Severus.
Beyond that, as far as trying to make it all fit together logically, I just try to average it out the best I can and go with what makes the most sense. Take what works, and discard the rest, as the saying goes. ;-)
