June SNARC: Sev's Alternative Career

I decided that Severus would choose to do just about anything that left him a free man without the stresses of serving a cold, cruel puppetmaster. (He couldn't wait to get away from Voldemort, either.) So rather than illustrate whatever routine but peaceful occupation he might pursue for a living, I decided to show what he does after work, moonlighting for a bit of extra cash:



Because he's got a really nice voice--how many hundreds of times are we told it's "silky"?--and we see in HBP that he can sing, I think Severus does pretty well at the karaoke bar. ;-) Don't you know he's still standing, better than he ever did, looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid!

Bonus points to those who recognize the song which Severus is singing in the picture. :-D


(My process was a mess, and the final version mashed up the text, so I'm not bothering with the ArtPad link this time.)

  I imagine him in a scimpier outfit if he's trying to pick up some extra cash, especially singing Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" -- and I would die to hear that in Snape's voice!

    Oh, God--Severus dressed like one of those guys in the "I'm Still Standing" video??? *pass teh brane bleech* Alas, he dresses like most guys dress for karaoke: T-shirt and jeans. Besides, there's only so much I can do with ArtPad and a roller ball mouse. ;-)
    
    BTW, he's singing a different song in the picture itself. Did you recognize it? Hint: It was a big hit during the formative years of my youth; I was born in '63.

      This video? I could live with Severus in some of those outfits, or lack thereof! How he'd feel about it is another question.
      
      The song is "Someone Saved My Life Tonight." I had to look it up, though. I remember when Sir Elton was emerging as an astounding piano player, and I even bought his first album, but my real loves were a bit heavier -- like John Lennon! I've noticed those userpics.

        It was the blue body paint that had me thinking, "no f-ing way." ;-) I forgot there were other outfits in the video--and of course the speedos without the blue body paint would be all right, though probably not at a karaoke bar, and yeah, I don't think it's quite Sev's style. However much fanon might like to play dress-up doll with him, the "real" Severus doesn't seem to be much of an exhibitionist. Dramatic, yes, but not in a way that reveals too much skin. ;-)
        
        And yep, you got the song right. I thought the title alone made it a good choice for post-war Severus (especially Saved-by-Fawkes Severus) but when the line I quoted came to mind, I damned near choked on the tea I was drinking. ;-) Re: the icons, previous talk of John Lennon looking like Severus (or vice versa) prompted me to search for images that looked especially "Sevvish." Glad you're enjoying the icons!

    Thanks! I think he's concentrating on the lyrics because he really feels them and identifies with what he's singing. ;-) Consider it catharsis, purging old resentments to make way for a new life.

    Why not? You don't have to sing, just sit and listen and enjoy. :-D If only we could find out where he's been hiding these past eleven years...

  Wow, that song! It is so apt! (At least that part, for I confess I do not know it.) Of course he is feeling it. I see he still has a green shirt, even in this alternate reality.

    Heh. Thank you for catching that. ;-) Yes, Severus came away from the war feeling very much manipulated; singing his resentments is cathartic and healing for him. Green, I think, now has healing connotations, as well as reflecting his Slytherin roots.
    
    The song, by the way, is "Someone Saved My Life Tonight," from the 1975 album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. Here in the States, at least, the song was played endlessly on top-40 rock/pop radio, and it's still a standard of 70s music.
