Seaking Severitis fics

First of all, apologies to the mods if this type of entry is not allowed. I didn't see anything about it in the rules but I'm aware it's very discouraged in other groups. If this post needs to be deleted, please let me know where I should be taking my search. Thanks!

I've stumbled across a few Snape/Harry Gen fics catagorised as Severitis. I believe it refers to fics that place Snape in a parental or mentor role for Harry, either actually as his father, or by adoption. In some cases it's merely a kinder Snape taking an interest in and caring for Harry. The recent recommendation by [info]terri_testing is an example.

I'm hoping members here have some good recommendations or may know of an archive for this catagory. Can anyone help me?
  • First place I would go is [info]snarryficfind on LJ. There might even be a tag for that. Also try [info]snarry_reader and [info]painless_j's recs.
  • If you haven't read A Year Like None Other, I suggest you spend the next few weeks doing so. There are sequels to it (A Summer Like None Other and A Family Like None Other--which is still a WIP). Warning: It is LONG. Over 100 chapters in the original, and each chapter itself is probably 5-10k in length. But it is well worth the read.
    • AYLNO is actually one of the few I've read and I really liked it. I didn't know there were sequels - thanks!
  • OWL has a whole category for this type of stories.
  • Over on OWL, greengecko has a smashing trilogy starting with Resonance and followed by Revolution and Resolution. The first is really fantastic: http://owl.tauri.org/stories.php?psid=100. They are all nice and looooooooooong reads, so they should keep you busy for a while.

Oh, and Resolution is a WIP at 43 chapters so far. Enjoy!
  • All the places others have recommended are great places to find mentor/adoption fics (Severitus I think was originally a challenge with specific rules; Sevitus seems to be a more broadly-defined version). I'd also recommend Potions and Snitches:

There are several kinds of Gen Harry/Snape fics there, many quite decent. Award-winners have a little ribbon by the name, I think.

    Happy hunting!
    • How rare - a Gen fic archive! :) Thanks for letting me know.
  • My favorites are the two written by Theowyn.

    • Absolutely! Theowyn's stories are two of the best in the genre. The added bonus is that they are complete. The sequel finishes, in my opinion, a lot better than DH.
  • Bohemian Spirit has a wonderful AU story called "Severus Evans" where Lily married Severus instead of James, so Severus is Harry's father. Lily is killed by Voldemort and Harry is sent to the Dursleys to protect him, and Harry and Severus aren't reunited until Harry starts his first year at Hogwarts. Severus doesn't really know how to be a father, and Harry is naturally confused and resentful that his father apparently abandoned him with the Dursleys, but they gradually learn to care for each other, and it's a really wonderful and touching twist on canon. It's still a WIP, but well worth reading, and the last posted chapter doesn't end on a cliffhanger.

    • Oooo, hey, thanks for the pimpage. ;-) I was resisting the temptation to rec my own work; nice that I didn't have to do so. And yes, the work in progress WILL continue to progress. My Muse sorta kinda went into hibernation after my mother's death, but now that I'm back online and writing again I expect to have the last few chapters (which are all drafted, just need finishing) posted reasonably soon. Thanks again, Geri!
