  • Why haven’t I read “The Last Homecoming” before? I’m surprised I missed this one. This is my favorite kind of Lily and Snape story. Canon time line and love on both sides. And I personally do think this fits canon. Stories like this make canon more powerful for me. I love it. This is going to be one of those stories I rec. when I have a chance to. And I think I will at TNL.
    • Thanks so much! I don't know why I'm so surprised at the popularity of this story. Maybe because it didn't take me long to write or come up with.
      • I think that these stories are popular because there are not many of them. The stories that go with the canon time line and Lily loves Snape.

This is the ship that brought me into fandom (I have long since converted lol). The majority of stories are seemed to be one sided love or AU. I do not consider your story AU and find it canon compliant. For me canon is just the text and not author’s interpretation or intent. Anything could have happened in-between. I like to believe that Snape had more memories than what he gave Harry.

I also see the HP series a one that will grow, change and things will become clearer. What I read that canon has not supplied is Dark Magic is darker, characters are developed more, and plot holes filled.

I also think that the type of story you have written is popular because that is where some of our thoughts went, for some of us readers. I have a friend who just finished reading the series for the first time, and he thought that Snape was going to tell Harry that he was his father, so I think your story fills a void for some of us. And if we really want to we can say…well could he be Harry’s father…you know this is a magical world. ; )

But anyway just my own thoughts and feelings. Nothing concrete. I did try and write my own story, but it ended up being about Lupin dealing with his friends thinking he was a trader and Lily having to deal with staying home with Harry, while James, Sirius and Peter were doing Order things. Don't know where that came from.

Didn’t mean to ramble but these stories are hard to find among the “Always” ones, so I get excited. Thanks again.
  • Snape/Lily.
It does both – works and does not work at the exact same time. If only it did not seem like she was just looking to dump him when he called her the M word. Excepting this, quite a wonderful pairing the two make – especially given all those Severitus stories.

Bittersweet and final. Strangely not heartbreaking, though. It had to happen that way. They are good together, but they are even better apart. Angst and unrequited love is only ever so much more beautiful than romance. All that passion. That yearning.

The Last Homecoming. Aptly named. Thank you for sharing it with us!

    :)
    • People do a lot of analyzing the events that took place between the group as kids at Hogwarts and I just keep thinking... "they were KIDS." I can bet that later most of them regreted things they did and said. And I can imagine that Lily wished that she would have dealt with Snape differently. So her approaching him is a bit of her trying to make amends for being such a bitch to him! In the end I don't know that it makes HIM feel any better. So yes, bittersweet. Yet it gives him a reason for holding on to his love for her for so long. You can imagine that he always holds on to a hope that she is going to come to her senses.
      • I see what you mean. I try not to hate her too much. She DID protect Harry with her life... that is VERY IMPORTANT. (look at my username, lol)

Plus, every time I start to rail on her, I just have to remember one thing: Snape liked her. And that is good enough for me.

        :)
  • I just read The Last Homecoming, and I must say, I really like it. This is the first Lily fanfic that I read since DH and you actually made me like her (and I did really like her pre-DH)!

The exchange here is (as already said by ensnarryed) bittersweet.... and you managed to have their own (for me, perfect) 'ending' with only a short story. Far, far better than the one we saw in TPT. Now, Lily here seems to be a bit better than what was shown to us in canon (especially in TPT) and a far more convincing and likeable character for me than the canting, nagging and unconcerned 'best friend' we saw in TPT... and definitely not like the Saint! Lily that most people insist she was in forums and in fanfic (IMHO, she was far from being a saint and was very flawed). And the younger Severus was so in character, too.

    • You know I'm not really a huge Lily fan. I'm actually fairly ambivolent towards her. But if I am to think of her, I would tend to think of her as being flawed like you said. I can even imagine her later feeling a lot of guilt for rejecting Snape at Hogwarts and perhaps even feeling responsible for some of his bad decisions.

To me, there just needed to be a reason that Snape would hang on to his emotions for her all that time. A think a passionate fling would be inspiring enough for that!
