*Nods* I have some fandoms that aren't as active as others. Even K/S goes through lulls in activity, but isn't going anywhere. Though it seems to me the success of any fandom boils down to the maintenance. Nothing exists without loyal fans dedicated to maintaining it. I know Trek fandom has been around since the first show aired and you can still find the original fic today even though print runs were *very* small and rarely in a format designed to last. But it could have easily fazed out entirely if it weren't for fans dedicated to keeping the zines around and available in lending library format.
Sites and archives disappear overnight taking much of our history with it. Which makes it important that when we do move on that we make sure we pass the reigns to someone reliable and committed to maintaining the work.
Maybe you can "hire" more helpers?
Well, not that more helpers wouldn't be useful, but mod work is primarily organizing and cheerleading. Okay, there's more to it, but really, the key is the participants. And I'm already 'asking' them to participate three times a year in Snarry-only fests. I'm not sure how much more people can be expected to do. Especially the ones who write more than Snarry (which is pretty much everyone). And also, when? Summer is notoriously bad. And it's no accident that the Games were in April and October which is when snape_potter has been holding their fests once the Games were retired.
I mean, there's no reason other people can't organize something else. But if it's Snarry, we're all fishing from the same stream.
