What a pleasant surprise! I didn’t know what to think after Holmes called Watson ”Potter” at the beginning, and after the sadness of ”The Forgotten Promise”, I was bracing myself for a gloomy tale. But then it started to make sense and was fun to read, too. Yay! And of course the meaning of those early parts became clear as the story progressed and I learned how much Harry’s forgetfulness had hurt Severus.
I liked the adventure that brought them together so neatly, forcing them to interact and work together without their wands and in a foreign setting in order to solve the fine mystery provided by Hansom and the necklace. Seeing Severus’ enthusiasm and his almost flawless impersonation of Holmes through Harry’s eyes was particularly lovely, and I enjoyed the understated manner in which their relationship evolved into the beautiful ending.
