FAQs
Q. - Do I really need to read all the rules and FAQs or are they pretty much the standard ones for fests?
A. - They're pretty standard, but we'd still suggest you read them. Especially since there are some new additions to the fest you may have questions about.
Q. - Where will the fest be held?
A. - The fest will be held at snape_potter and all stories, art, and mod posts will be cross-posted to IJ, LJ, and DW. Commenting will be enabled at all three sites.
Q. - When will the mods stop taking prompts?
A. - The mods will stop taking prompts at 1 pm (EST) on Saturday, January 23.
Q. - You are taking prompts on IJ, LJ, and DW. Will the mods be making a combined post when it's time for claiming?
A. - Yes. After we stop taking prompts, a complete list of all prompts will be posted at 9 p.m. (EST). Comments will be disabled for 16 hours to give everyone a chance to read over the entire list of prompts and decide which prompt they would like to claim.
Q. - When will I be able to claim a prompt/sign-up?
A. - On Sunday, January 24, at 1 pm (EST), comments will be enabled on the post and claiming of prompts will begin.
Q. - How do I claim a prompt?
A. - Claims should be made in the comment section of the prompt post on IJ. LJ or DW and should use the claim template. All comments will be screened.
Q. - What happens if I won't be in front of the computer when claiming begins?
A. - In that case, you can ask a friend to claim a prompt on your behalf. However, each comment must consist of only one claim. So if both you and your friend are participating in the fest, your friend will need to make two separate comments - one for his/her claim and one for yours. Please use the standard claim template which can be found with the complete list of prompts. The mods will e-mail you to confirm that a prompt is yours and you can begin writing/drawing your entry.
Q. - Will people know who signed up for the fest?
A. - Eventually. ;D But all comments on the claiming post will be screened. One of the mods will e-mail participants to confirm their prompts.
Q. - How many prompts can I claim?
A. - Each participant may claim only one prompt. However, after you submit your first entry, you may claim another prompt up to a maximum of three prompts.
Q. - What if someone else claims the prompt I want?
A. - Each prompt can be claimed up to four times - two times by an author and two times by an artist. The mods will cross out the prompts that are no longer available for claiming. They will also indicate the number of times a prompt has been claimed by authors and by artists.
Q. - The claim template asks me to select an alternate prompt. Do I have to?
A. - No. That is completely optional. The mods hope everyone will be able to receive their first choice of prompt and we will always give you your first choice before moving on to your alternate choice. But there is such a wide diversity of fantastic prompts we hope people will consider an alternative if their first choice is taken.
Q - I found a prompt I really like but the person requested a specific ending/specific kink and that's not really how I want to write/draw the prompt. Am I obligated to write/draw to their specifications?
A - Since this isn't a gift exchange you don't need to feel obligated to incorporate specific requests into your submission although you are certainly free to do so. You may interpret the prompt in whatever manner you prefer.
Q - I found part of a prompt I really like but the person added a number of other plot points that I don't want to include. Am I obligated to write/draw the entire prompt?
A - Again, since this isn't a gift exchange, you don't need to feel obligated to incorporate all elements of the prompt into your submission, although you are certainly free to do so. However, you should make an attempt to incorporate the most important elements of the prompt into your entry.
Q. - I want to use one prompt fully, but also adapt part of another prompt for a single entry. How should I word my claim?
A.- Since you will only be fully using one prompt, that's the prompt you should claim. If another prompt inspires you to incorporate certain actions/events/details in your entry, feel free to acknowledge them in the author's notes of your completed entry.
Q. - What is a Wild Card?
A. - There are two different wild cards. No one will be assigned a wild card. If you want a wild card, you must claim it as your prompt. Wild Card 1 means you want to write/draw something that is not one of the prompts. It must still feature Snape/Harry as the primary pairing, but everything else is up to you. Wild Card 2 means that you are willing to write/draw a prompt chosen by the mod. Of course, you have the right to specify the types of things you prefer not to write and you may decline any prompt chosen for any reason. However, it will be more fun if you truly are open to writing almost anything if you sign-up for Wild Card 2.
Q. - Are wild cards limited to 4 claims?
A. - Yes and no. ;D Wild Card #1 can be claimed by an unlimited number of participants since there is unlikely to be a repeat of prompt scenarios which is the reason the claims are limited. Wild Card #2 can also be claimed by an unlimited number of participants. However, the mods will only match participants with prompts that have not reached their claim limits.
Q. - May I submit crafts or jewelery as my entry?
A. - Absolutely.
Q. - What if I claim a prompt and then the muse dries up? Can I write/draw something else?
A. - Absolutely.
Q. - How long do I have to decide if I want to claim a prompt?
A. - The deadline for making your first claim is Feb 2. For people who have already submitted one entry and want to claim another prompt, they may do so until the final day of posting. You may submit up to three entries. However, you must submit a completed entry before claiming your next prompt.
Q. - Last year I signed up but wasn't able to complete an entry. Can I still sign up this year?
A. - Absolutely! There is no penalty associated with not being able to submit an entry. Though the mods would appreciate knowing if you need to drop out or if you need an extension. We're all friends here.
Q. - Where should I submit my completed entry?
A. - All entries and any questions should be submitted to: snarryathon AT gmail DOT com
Q. - Will the entries be posted anonymously? Who is doing the posting?
A. - All entries will be posted by the Snarry-a-Thon mods. And they will be posted anonymously. A masterlist of entries will be posted at the conclusion of the fest.
