Snarry-a-Thon FIC: The Secret of Seeing Rightly
Title: The Secret of Seeing Rightly
Author: [info]quill_lumos
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 25,700ish
Warning(s): (highlight for spoilers) *None. Harry is eighteen.*
Prompt: #155 - Good old-fashioned hurt/comfort fic, where either one is hurt and the other one takes care of him and they fall in love in the process.
Summary: Severus Snape can cope alone no-longer, he needs help. At the end of his energies he forces a bond on the one person who might be able to help him – Harry Potter.
A/N: I have wanted to write this story for quite a long time so thanks to whoever set the prompt which inspired me to finally get it done. It is a clichéd forced bond, whereby one of the boys has to take care of the other during an illness and is woven around themes from The Little Prince – by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
I don’t think that you need to know the story of The Little Prince in order to read this, but should you wish to the link is here: http://www.odaha.com/littleprince.php?f=English
Thank you so much to my darling betas. pansiesaremyfavourites and veridianvelvet, you know who you really are, ladies and how much I love you both. Any remaining mistakes are my own.
Thanks also to our wonderful mods for coming up with the idea of this fest, allowing me an extension on this fic and being so wonderfully supportive.

OMG I love this-perhaps colored by my intense love of The Little Prince and the similarities I've always seen with Severus's story but you really worked this into a wonderful tale. Severus's desperation at the beginning and the way Harry takes care of him, in spite of Severus's nastiness. The slow development between them. And the books are so important-that Severus has to sell them, that no one will take them, then Harry finding a way and finally buying them himself to keep for Severus-I just LOVE that so much. Truly wonderful. Excellent work.

This was so great! I'm such a sucker for hurt comfort, and especially when novels are weaved into a story. And the fact that it was books like The Little Prince and Peter Pan, I just had to love it. The slow recovery was great and I also really enjoyed the kind of domesticity of it all. It was just life, put on hold for some healing, but it went on and it was beautiful. Thanks for the great story!

Hurt/comfort fics are my absolute *favorite* stories and you certainly satisified this reader. You didn't rush their relationship and kept them totally in character for me. I loved Harry's garden, and suspected Harry might try and save Snape's books (yay Harry!)

This really started my day off perfectly! Thanks, mystery writer!

Severus smirked and pulled Harry closer; the boy was so very good for his ego.

Yes he is. ;) Great story! I really liked how Harry seemed to have grown to love and understand Severus. It was especially heart-warming to see what Harry had secretly done with the books. What a wonderful surprise!

Aww, lots of lovely things in this fic. What touched me most was Harry's handling of the books, even the way he sold and then bought them so they were removed from the savings of those Severus had despised. The end was quite touching, and the sex was very hot! Good job!

"His lover, his Harry, his rose."

This last line just sends shivers up and down my spine. I love H/C and force bonding fics and they are combined brilliantly in this fic. You have also worked the Little Prince, his rose, and his journey to understanding into this fic so cleverly. I adore your Harry and his your Severus and their journey to understanding and love. Kudos, dear, sweet, mystery author! :~D

PS: pansiesaremyfavourites and veridianvelvet - brilliant!

I enjoyed this story more and more as it went on. The really good hurt/comfort, I think, is the story around the books. I love that Severus has time to think through what Harry's actions meant, to lay aside his first impulse of anger, to realise that his gratitude is beautiful, and then to express it!

The end of the fic is *beautifully* written. I also love the brief bits about their interaction with the people in Snape's town.

a wonderful H/C and a very nice progression of their relationship. And the potion's lab blow job on a desk covered in feverfew was hot!

Very moving. I especially liked the scene where Snape finds out that it's Harry whose been buying his favourite books.

I shall add The Little Prince to my to-be-read list immediately!

Excellent story, Mystery Author. Your depiction of both characters is truly wonderful. The depth you give them, through the artful description of body language and the scripting of their emotions, is superb. And yet it is the subtle that marks this story as evidence of great talent. Every step taken in their relationship, the scents and sights you give us of Spinners End, and the myriad incidentals of two bound lives drew me in. When these were added to perfect pacing and structure, this story stepped off the page right into my arms. This is most assuredly a triumph.

Oh, excellent story!

I loved Severus going from sulking and snarking to caring for and loving Harry. I also loved how the story went from Harry taking care of Snape to Snape taking care of Harry, and in the end they were taking care of each other. It all changed and developed beautifully :)

A wonderful read. Thanks for sharing!

Love the description of Harry and the Muggle shopping, not being able to leave for long.
You could feel his need to get away, and the desire to stay when he realized why Snape had no choice.
Good work.

Hurt/comfort and forced bonding and The Little Prince. This hit so many of my kinks, you could have been writing it for me, and it wasn't even my prompt.

I really did enjoy watching both of them get to know each other, and that they both got to comfort each other, although for different reasons. So very wonderful.

Beautiful. Simply wonderful. I like how they both still have their issues, and how Severus finally saw Harry and accepted the good with the bad, as well as acknowledging and rightfully feeling bad about his poor behavior! I find Harry's goodness a small miracle, but then, that was his mother's real gift - his ability to love. Thanks for a great read!

Fantastic entry! The leisurely unfolding of events and corresponding emotions was well-written, allowing the reader to enjoy the hurt/comfort. Harry making Spinner's End into a home has to be one of the all-time best ways of getting Severus to really see the Boy Who Lived.

This line is so expressive of the beauty of the writing:
Quite simply a naked and writhing Harry Potter, spread out before him like a feast on a bed of feverfew, was by far the most erotic, the most delectable thing Severus had ever seen and he spread the boy's legs wide and leaned forward to partake of the proffered feast.

The image is classical in allusion and erotic in atmosphere! Along those same lines, your references to The Little Prince both fit the emotional context of the scenes in addition to driving the narrative.

Well done!

Lovely story. I like hurt/comfort stories, and this one was very well done. It was very easy to imagine Severus calling in a debt to avoid having to ask for help.

I love The Little Prince as well and like how you fit it and other aspects of Severus's childhood into the story.

What a wonderful story ... funny and sad all at once. I enjoyed the way you switched between the points of view of Harry and Sev as it let me understand Sev's grumpiness and Harry's developing feelings for him.
