Snarry-A-Thon FIC: Seven Steps to Heaven
Title: Seven Steps to Heaven
Author: [info]whitecotton
Other pairings/threesome: HG/RW
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 16,863
Warning(s): (highlight for spoilers) *Character death; DH compliant, minus the epilogue.*
Prompt: Harry's friends think he is delightfully round the twist, while the rest of the wizarding world thinks him endearingly eccentric. What they don't know is that for the past [seven] years since the end of the war, Severus Snape has been Harry's constant ghostly companion.
Summary: Severus should have died in the shrieking shack and gone on to enjoy a relaxing death in hell - or heaven. However, although he managed the first task, he fell short at the second. Now he's stuck in the land of the living, invisible to all but one person: Harry Potter.
A/N: Thank you to [info]atypicalsnowman, [info]rakina and Cyndie Bell for the beta read.

I don't normally enjoy fics where Snape actually died in the Shrieking Shack, but this is definitely an exception - truly Snarry, in spite of their unusual situation. Great job!

Oh, this was splendid!

The 'pathos' (had to use that word again!) you engender in the reader in sympathy for poor Harry's isolation, for yet another instance of the idiocy of the wizarding world, is striking. It's amazing how everyone expects unusual things from him when they are necessary to free them of Voldemort, but refuse to acknowledge the possibilities of the unusual when it would distort their world view.

Off my soapbox now, your characterization was incredibly insightful, showing the insecurity and courage of both Harry and Severus as they delve into such unexplored territory. Your descriptions of Severus' trying to project himself into real life, and his reactions to Harry's attempts at trying to make his way outside of their little world are inspired! Beautifully written, mystery writer!

I love the twist at the end *g* You made me cry before the last scene with Hermione's final understanding but the end was not at all sad but funny and cute. The last line is a winner!
(Ten point for the hopscotch. I'm glad Sev had the chance to enjoy some mundane things life denied to him ♥)

I was really hesitant to start reading due to Snape was dead (not usually a fan of that) and I'm so glad I did! My heart was in my throat when I thought Harry was actually going to get committed, and yay to Snape for saving him yet again! Wonderful story!

That was just gorgeous-to start at the end, when Severus reaches out to Hermione-brilliant! I loved their growing attraction to one another, the brewing scene with Harry stripping and Severus resisting him at first was just fabulous. Such a clever concept to have them tied together like this. Excellent work.

Smoking hot... then breathtakingly lovely... then even more lovely, and funny at the same time, with such a wonderful ending and ooh I'm all warm inside. I hate dead!Snape fics, or more accurately the notion of them, but this was so wonderful and happy and rewarding. Beautiful! :D

lovely story. All the characters were wonderfully IC. The ending was happy/sad which is an interesting combo. I love the word of the week thing, I used to do that with my friend at work. =)

The final scene with Hermione finally acknowledging Severus' presence is breath-takingly beautiful - and their coming together in Heaven, finally. Thank you!

Great story. I loved the progression from irritated at his predicament Snape, to warm and loving Snape, while still maintaining IC. Really liked the ending with the suggestion that Harry died in a potions accident. *snort* Heck of an interruption I'm thinking. Great job!!!!!

Oh, how utterly lovely! I love Severus' uncertainty here. It was perfectly executed. Both of them were wonderfully in character. Great job!

I must admit I'm another who is not keen on the Dead Snape bit but, as like the others, I really did enjoy this.

It was enchanting and I'm very much glad I read it as it was brilliantly written.

So sweet and funny and a little sad. Loved the nosy lady in the park. I learnt a new curse word. (Fuck-a-doodle-doo? LOL iz ded!) And I'm really thinking Snape joggled Harry's elbow there at the end. :D
Loved it, loved it!

Wow. Just wow. I'm telling you, I teared up a bit at the part with Hermoine and Snape. I was just so...angry at the way they were treating Harry, but the way Snape was trying so hard to make people realize he wasn't crazy...Oh man. Just so amazing.

I enjoyed this story a lot.

I have to admit I scrolled down to the end, too, before reading it. Character death is not my favorite thing in the world, but ghost!severus was really awesome. I like how their relationship develops through compromises and a mutual letting go.

Great job, mystery author.

I love how you turned a premise that is usually so heartbreaking into something so prefect and strong. The exchange between Hermione and Harry when she was trying to have him committed was really moving, as were all the scenes with Harry and Severus. Your way with words is amazing!

Thank you for the lovely read!

What an interesting premise! I was impressed at how this story stayed so angsty throughout. I'm never sure I much enjoy this kind of grim post-Voldemort world, where Harry is off-kilter, hiding out with Snape, while everyone else he knows treats him like a child or a slightly scary freak. But it's very realistic that he could become this weird - he never was very good at keeping a poker face - and that even Hermione and Ron might move on from their school-time friendship.

Nice work. :-) I liked best Snape's longing to touch Harry outside their "personal time"...the scene with Snape's fingers near Harry's hair, but Snape couldn't find the courage to take what he wanted... and when he thinks about wanting slow kisses and touches at random times during the day and then finally getting the courage to approach Harry. And of course the happily ever after in the after life together is great! ^_^

I loved this! I worried throughout out that either Harry's friends or the Ministry would have him committed. But Severus saved the day as always. The slow growth of their relationship was very believable. I also liked the explanation of the effect that dying had on Harry, weakening his connection to the living world. I do love when the death at the end only means they are truly together.

This was a great take on a Snarry afterlife fic. I love how Harry is perceived by his so-called friends - and furious that Molly would treat him so badly. Could they not have learned to cope with his "eccentricities"? Just perfect how it ended too. I loved everything about this story.

Oh, that was so good! Great use of the prompt, and a charming exploration of the relationship and of Harry's little quirks. Very endearing. I'm very glad of the happy ending. :)

I'm curious about Harry's peculiar aura that Severus noticed, though - that was never really explained; if it had any sort of long-term effect, if it was what allowed Harry to see Severus or if that was merely coincidence, what caused it. I'd love to know.

I enjoyed that immensely! :)
