Secret Snarry Swap is an anonymous fic and art fest hosted by snape_potter. All entries will be cross-posted directly to snape_potter on LJ, IJ, and DW and at AO3.
How it works: On Tuesday, August 18 we will begin to collect prompts. Everyone may leave three prompts. All comments to the post will be screened. Prompting will close at 11:59PM EDT, Sunday, August 30. Anyone can submit a prompt without obligation to create for the fest (though it's nice to return the favor when you can). We do hope, however, that you will take the time to comment on any entry created for your prompt. Additionally, you do not need to leave a prompt to claim one.
On Monday, August 31 we will post a list of all the prompts. Claiming will begin on Tuesday, September 1 and end on Sunday, September 27. Claiming will also be done through screened comments to the post. Each creator will only fulfill one prompt, but will be asked to identify 2 prompts you are willing to claim. If someone else claims your first choice before you get the chance to do it, you'll automatically get your second choice. Even though we will be striking out the sign-ups as soon as they're claimed, there's no guarantee you'll get your first choice. Flexibility is the key for this fest. If you are willing to create something for any of the prompts, please indicate that in your claim and the mods will assign you a prompt. A mod will confirm your claim via e-mail. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILTERS!
The entry you create does NOT have to include all prompt suggestions and likes in your recipient's prompt request. But it should include at least one as well as none of their deal-breakers.
Participants will have the rest of September, all of October AND half of November to create their works. A good ten weeks if you claim early. All pieces are due by Sunday, November 15.
All entries will be posted anonymously throughout December. Author/artist reveals will be posted December 31.
Timeline:
Submission of prompts: August 18-30
Claiming of prompts: September 1-27
When can I start?: As soon as the mods have confirmed your prompt
Creations are due: November 15, 2020 Posting starts: December 1, 2020
Prompting Info:
Please fill out a new form for each prompts, should you choose to leave more than one. The maximum is three.
Username: Since we cross-post to all three journals, please list your username at IJ/LJ/DW/AO3 if you have more than one. Age statement: Any variation of "I am over 18" is fine. Prompt: Please keep your prompt manageable, from several words to a couple of sentences. If you need examples, please see last year's prompt list for an idea how your prompt will look in its final form. Up to three deal-breakers: We want you to be happy with the entry created for your prompt. We ask participants to assume anything too kinky or too outside the box shouldn't be in the gift unless specifically requested. That means scat, necrophilia, bloodplay, watersports and Roman showers will be assumed to be a deal-breaker unless specifically requested. So this spot is for more commonly seen kinks/genres/scenarios you would prefer not to receive. IMPORTANT Additionally, because it could be illegal for some recipients to view anything with an under-18 character Chan will not be permitted UNLESS requested by the recipient. Please remember chan at snape_potter is anything under 18. This includes past and/or implied chan. I especially like: Please put your favorite things here. Like "pwp", "mpreg", "fluff", "holiday themed", "happy endings", "mystery", "humor", "chan - 16+".
If you have any questions about how this is going to work, please ASK.
Rules:
- Participants must be eighteen years old by September 1, 2020.
- Snape/Harry will be the primary pairing of all creations. Secondary pairings are allowed but the primary pairing (or threesome) must include Snape/Harry.
- We accept all ratings from G - NC-17.
- The minimum word count for fics is 1,000. There is no maximum.
- All fics should be beta-read or at the very least SPaG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar) proofed.
- For fic, your story should be submitted in fully post-ready form. That means that we should be able to copy and paste from your document right into a livejournal html posting window without making changes. It is a good idea to test your coding by making a private-locked post before submitting.
- Submit your fic as .doc, .docs, .rtf, or .txt. No gdocs and please turn off "curly quotes".
- Creations must be complete and original. They can't be part of a WiP or part of an on-going series/universe.

- Most importantly: have fun! Yes, that's a rule. This fest is all about celebrating the delight we have creating and re-inventing new ways for our two favorite men to interact with each other.
FAQs
Q. - Do I really need to read all the rules and FAQs or are they pretty much the standard ones for fests?
A. - They're pretty standard, but we'd still suggest you read them. Especially since there are some new additions to the fest you may have questions about.
Q. - Where will the fest be held?
A. - The fest will be held at snape_potter and all stories, art, and mod posts will be cross-posted to IJ, LJ, and DW and at AO3. Commenting will be enabled at all four sites.
Q. - When will the mods stop taking prompts?
A. - The mods will stop taking prompts at 11:59PM EDT, August 30.
Q. - Why am I limited to leaving three prompts?
A. - Though this isn't a full gift exchange, we are limiting prompt requests because want to make sure as many people get at least one of their prompts filled as possible.
Q. - You are taking prompts on IJ, LJ, and DW. Will the mods be making a combined post when it's time for claiming?
A. - Yes. After we stop taking prompts, a complete list of all prompts will be posted on Monday, August 31. Comments will be temporarily disabled to give everyone a chance to read over the entire list of prompts and decide which prompt they would like to claim.
Q. - When will I be able to claim a prompt?
A. - On Tuesday, September 1, at 11 AM (EDT), comments will be enabled on the post and claiming of prompts will begin.
Q. - How do I claim a prompt?
A. - Claims should be made in the comment section of the prompt post on IJ, LJ or DW and should use the claim template. All comments will be screened.
Q. - What happens if I won't be in front of the computer when claiming begins?
A. - In that case, you can ask a friend to claim a prompt on your behalf. However, each comment must consist of only one claim. So if both you and your friend are participating in the fest, your friend will need to make two separate comments - one for his/her claim and one for yours. Please use the standard claim template which can be found with the complete list of prompts. The mods will e-mail you to confirm that a prompt is yours and you can begin writing/drawing your entry.
Q. - Will people know who signed up for the fest?
A. - Eventually. ;D But all comments on the claiming post will be screened. One of the mods will e-mail participants to confirm their prompts.
Q. - How many prompts may I claim?
A. - Each participant may claim only one prompt. However, after you submit your first entry, you may claim another prompt.
Q. - What if someone else claims the prompt I want?
A. - Each prompt can only be claimed once. The mods will cross out the prompts that are no longer available for claiming. There should be plenty of prompts available for everyone who wants to participate.
Q. - The claim template asks me to select an alternate prompt. Do I have to?
A. - No. That is completely optional. The mods hope everyone will be able to receive their first choice of prompt and we will always give you your first choice before moving on to your alternate choice. But there is such a wide diversity of fantastic prompts we hope people will consider an alternative if their first choice is taken.
Q. - I found a prompt I really like but the person requested a specific ending/specific kink and that's not really how I want to write/draw the prompt. Am I obligated to write/draw to their specifications?
A. - Secret Snarry Swap is not a full exchange but we do want creators to keep the spirit of the prompt in mind when crafting their entry.
Q. - I found part of a prompt I really like but the person added a number of other plot points that I don't want to include. Am I obligated to write/draw the entire prompt?
A. - No. You don't need to feel obligated to incorporate all elements of the prompt into your submission, although you are certainly free to do so. However, you should incorporate some elements of the prompt into your entry.
Q. - Will the recipient be listed on the final entry when it posts?
A. - Yes. The prompter will be added by the mods when the entry posts.
Q. - I read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and want to incorporate info from the play into my entry. Is that allowed?
A. - Absolutely. We ask that you mention there are spoilers for Cursed Child either on the warning line or in your A/N. Same is true for the Fantastic Beasts universe.
Q. - The banner this year looks very romantic. Are only romantic prompts/entries welcome this year?
A. - No. All types of Snarry are welcome at Snape_Potter.
Q. - May two (or more) people collaborate on one entry?
A. - Absolutely.
Q. - May one entry feature both fic and art?
A. - Absolutely.
Q. - What if I claim a prompt and then the muse dries up? Can I choose a different prompt?
A. - Yes. But please let the mods know of the change.
Q. - If I know my spelling and grammar, do I really need a beta?
A. - We highly recommend having another set of eyes read your fic before you submit it. Betas are good for more than spelling and grammar. They can help spot plotholes, typos, canon errors, Britpick and smooth language for non-native speakers.
Q. - Is this fest really just an excuse for the creation of more Snarry?
A. - Absolutely. ;D
Q. - How long do I have to decide if I want to claim a prompt?
A. - Claiming closes on Sunday, September 27th. For people who have already submitted one entry and want to claim a second (or third) prompt, you must submit a completed entry before claiming your second prompt.
Q. - I've had to drop-out of snape_potter fests before. Can I still sign up this year?
A. - Yes. There is no penalty associated with not being able to submit an entry. Though the mods would appreciate knowing if you need to drop out or if you need an extension. Because the holiday season can become rather hectic, we would appreciate it if participants tried their best to submit their entries as close to the due date as possible.
Q. - Where should I submit my completed entry?
A. - All entries and any questions should be submitted to: spfestmod AT gmail DOT com
Q. - Will the entries be posted anonymously? Who is doing the posting?
A. - All entries will be posted by the Secret Snarry Swap mods. And they will be posted anonymously. A masterlist of entries will be posted at the conclusion of the fest.
