Harry patted Ron’s shoulder. “You can kip here for as long as you like, no worries.”
Ron sighed. “Thanks, mate. I just can’t face going home right now, you know?”
Severus, standing by the door, cleared his throat. Harry shot him a warning look before saying, “I’ll be right back.”
“How long is he planning to stay?” asked Severus as soon as Harry joined him in the kitchen.
“I’ve no idea. He had a fight with Hermione.”
“About?”
Harry shrugged. “Every time I ask, he goes mental and starts babbling about how he can’t face her.”
Severus sighed. “This was supposed to be our summer week off together.”
“I know.”
“I realise he’s your best friend, but something must be done.”
“I know!” Harry sighed. “But we can’t throw him out.”
“Indeed,” muttered Severus dryly.
“It’ll probably only be for one night.”
“Or it may be for a month.”
Harry groaned.
“Very well.” Severus huffed. “Clearly, I shall have to deal with this.”
Harry’s eyes widened. “Don’t do anything drastic.”
“Sometimes drastic measures are required,” Severus said, starting for the door. “Check on dinner, would you?”
“Severus--” Cursing under his breath, Harry opened the oven, checking on the salmon. Then, he raced out to the living room, skidding to a stop when he saw Ron and Severus chatting amiably. “Is everything okay?”
“Everything is fine.” Severus rose. “I was just offering Ronald his choice of our guest rooms.”
Harry’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Okay.”
“Thanks for being decent about this,” said Ron. “I really appreciate it. Is it all right if I wash up before dinner?”
“Of course.” Severus gestured to the hallway. “Second door on the left.”
“What are you up to?” Harry murmured after Ron had left.
Severus hummed. “I’m just making him feel welcome.”
“Mmhm.”
Dinner was sedate, with Ron not saying much. Severus was quiet as well, thus leaving Harry to carry the conversation. When Ron retired early, Harry and Severus were left in the living room.
“That wasn’t so bad,” Harry said as he and Severus prepared for bed.
“I’ve spent worse evenings,” agreed Severus. He hummed, pulling Harry towards him. “Shall we strive to make it a stellar evening?”
Harry laughed softly. “Why not?” he murmured, kissing Severus.
He arched against Severus, Harry nipping playfully at Severus’ mouth as he drew him towards their bed and on top of him. Spreading his legs, Harry hummed as Severus settled between them.
Moving together with the familiarity of old lovers, they made love sensually, and if Severus was bit louder than usual, Harry thought nothing of it, adding his own voice to Severus’ loud moans and cries. Afterward, as they curled together, Harry couldn’t stop smiling. “That was brilliant.”
Severus’ arms tightened around him. “I agree. An excellent start to our holiday.”
The next morning, Ron was waiting for them in the kitchen. He jumped to his feet the moment they entered. “So I Floo called Hermione and we talked. I’ll be heading home today.”
“Ron, that’s brilliant!” Harry beamed.
Severus inclined his head. “I’m pleased things seem to have worked out between the two of you.”
Ron, who seemed to be avoiding looking at them, nodded. “Thanks.” He bit lis lip. “Anyway, I’m off.”
“Okay. I’ll walk you to the Floo,” said Harry. When they got there, he continued, “Tell Hermione I said hello.”
“Right.” Ron hesitated, then said, “And, Harry? Maybe you should put up some Privacy Spells around your bedroom, mate.”
Harry frowned. “But we have--”
“Well, they’re not good enough.” Blushing brightly, Ron finally met his eyes. “Trust me when I say that. See you later.”
When Harry returned to the kitchen, Severus was humming, reading the paper. “You are unbelievable,” Harry said, crossing his arms.
Severus raised an eyebrow.
“You deliberately let Ron hear us having sex last night!”
“I’ve no idea what you mean.” Severus calmly sipped his tea. “Although if our...activities last night encouraged him to reconcile with his wife, who are we to argue?”
“This was all so we could have our week alone together, wasn’t it?”
Severus smirked. “Are you objecting to the outcome?”
Shaking his head, Harry laughed. Severus would never change. “No, I suppose not.”
