This is glorious.
It has all the slow build-up of Snape in Azkaban, left by both sides, only to be retrieved as a member of the Order. I love the difference of Harry's leadership opposed to Dumbledore's pragmatism. I love everyone, including Hogwarts, damaged and hurting. The matter-of-fact way of Severus and Harry getting together, almost incidentally, and Snape's revival of Hogwarts is fabulous. I particularly love Hogwarts as a sentient being, and Snape unwilling to abandon her.

I read this at 3am and don't think I've been this moved by a story in ages. What a powerful sense of bleakness you paint for Snape, and how glorious Harry is. This really touched me and left me speechless. Incredible writing, full of power and hope. Perfection, thank you for writing this beautiful piece. X

I'm quite blown away by this story, well done! It's such a realistic look at the aftermath--how everyone is busy, but at loose ends and a bit lost. The development of the relationship between Harry and Severus is slowly and realistically developed, true to both of their characters. The reader can feel the weight that each carries and how the company of the other helps make it more bearable. I really liked the use of the theme of 'home' and how it unfolds in relation to Hogwarts--the importance of loyalty, of connection. Just lovely! I'll definitely be saving this one to re-read when I can devour it in one sitting. :)

Truly epic AU fic. Snape in Azkaban--in all its gritty realism--Harry trying to lead the best way he can, the slow development of their relationship as nearly the backdrop to the importance of what to do (or not) with Hogwarts as well as the future of the wizarding world. I think Severus's relationship with the school was done so well and his going in to Hogwarts--going home--and refusing to leave is the scene that stays with me more than any other. Well done.

A very amazing story. I haven't read a Snape/Harry fic like this in years. I love the slow development, the magic, and the plot. Magnificent work!~Sophia

Oh, boy. So much goodness. I didn't realize the length of this fic at first, so when we spent so much time in Azkaban I was befuddled. Then I realized that I was about to luxuriate in a loooong, wonderful story and I kept checking the slider bar on the edge to see how much joy I had left.
You transformed Snape so many times. You made me believe that he'd lost himself in prison, and was afraid he wouldn't find anything after getting out. So many wonderful twists and turns like his spontaneous trip back to Spinner's End after his release. When he went back to Hogwarts to die, I really thought that's what was going to happen and I was so upset. Because it could happen. This Snape would do that. I'm glad his sacrifice didn't come to that. (oh, god, I just realized that I had an IYAP flashback in reverse reading the end of this fic. Holy cow. Harry keeping vigil outside the Head's office just tore me up.)
I really enjoyed the AU stemming from one change. I love that you kept some questions unanswered until the very end, like why is Hermione so preternaturally beautiful, and the story of what happened on that raid.
Hogwarts as a dying creature was terribly sad. It cast a real pall over the fic; I could never forget that she was dying, just like the rest of the characters couldn't. Lovely to have a happy future of rebuilding. And to hell with Beaubatons! I put a curse on all their croissants that they should never be flaky. Selfish bastards.
This Harry was perfect (if too tall, lol). Everyone is so careworn and tired, but such a tight family, it was touching to see Snape allow himself to think of them as his people finally, his world, his purpose. Harry was so responsible, I'm glad Snape finally understood how desperate Harry was to rescue him.
This story will bear rereading. Brilliant!

Quite an epic angst-fest, especially the Azkaban years. I must confess I prefer Snape rather less passive, but I enjoyed the way Harry interacted with him, and the part played by Hogwarts castle itself.
