Secret Snarry Swap
sealcatSecret Snarry Swap is an anonymous, double-blind fic and art fest hosted by
snape_potter. All entries will be cross-posted directly to snape_potter on LJ, IJ, and DW.This is the 8th year our community has hosted a holiday exchange, but this year there is a new twist! Secret Snarry Swap will be both an exchange and a prompt fest. How will this work, you ask?
As always, we will have our traditional holiday exchange fest, the Secret Snarry Swap. This traditional exchange is designed for those who prefer a fest with longer, more fleshed-out works (3,000 or more word fic, detailed color, or multi-panel art). To give everyone the maximum amount of time to create their works, we will be holding sign-ups for the Honeydukes Deluxe beginning Aug 26. Since the Honeydukes Deluxe is the Exchange part of the fest ALL participants who sign up to take part in the exchange will both give a gift and receive a gift.
But because we know many people are busy with other holiday fests and may not want to commit to a full exchange (or perhaps just like the idea of fulfilling holiday wishes after completing other holiday commitments), the second way to participate will be though the Honeydukes Sampler. We will be gathering prompts beginning the second week of October. This is for smaller gifts (300 to 3,000 word fic, art without detailed background and/or color, a small group of icons). Anyone can submit a prompt without obligation (though it's nice to return the favor when you can).
Think of it like this: the Honeydukes Deluxe is a full-fledged Exchange fest where everyone will both give and receive a gift. The Honeydukes Sampler is a way to both give a gift or receive one without the obligation implied in an exchange. Entries do not have to be holiday themed. As long as it's Snarry, that's all the celebration we need.
How it works:
Secret Snarry Swap - Deluxe Exchange
On Monday, August 26 we will post a sign-up post. To get a gift, you have to give a gift. The sign-up post is where you will leave your prompts. All comments to the post will be screened. Sign-ups will close at 11:59PM EDT, Monday, September 2nd.
On Tuesday, September 3 we will post a numbered list of all the sign-ups (minus identifying information) on DW. Claiming will begin 24 hours later on Wednesday, September 4. Like sign-ups, claiming will also be done through screened comments to the post. Each participant will only fulfill one sign-up, but will be asked to identify 3 sign-ups you are willing to claim. If someone else claims your first choice before you get the chance to do it, you'll automatically get your second choice. You will only be given your third choice if both your first and second choice have already been claimed. Even though we will be striking out the sign-ups as soon as they're claimed, there's no guarantee you'll get your first choice. Flexibility is the key for this fest. If you are willing to create something for any of the sign-ups, please indicate that in your claim and you will be assigned last. A mod will confirm your assignment via e-mail. The gift you create does NOT have to include all prompt suggestions and likes in your recipient's sign-up. But it should include at least one as well as none of their deal-breakers.
Participants will have the rest of September, all of October AND most of November to create their works. All pieces are due by Monday, November 18.
Secret Snarry - Sampler
On Monday, October 7, we will post a call for prompts. For the Sampler, since this is not an exchange, anyone over 18 may submit a prompt without obligation (though it's nice to return the favor if you can). Each person may leave up to 3 prompts. All comments to the post will be screened and sign-ups will close Sunday, October 13 at 11:59PM EDT. As with all prompt fests, there is no guarantee your prompt will be claimed. However we will make every effort to ensure that all claimed prompts are filled.
On Tuesday, October 15, we will post a numbered list of all the prompts (minus identifying information) on DW and claiming will begin. Each prompt may be claimed only once and we will striking out the prompts as soon as they're claimed. A mod will confirm your claim via e-mail. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILTERS!
Even though this is not an exchange, since this is a gift we ask that gifters stick to the spirit of the prompt. The gift you create does NOT have to include all prompt suggestions and likes in your recipient's sign-up. But it should include at least one as well as none of their deal-breakers.
All entries will be posted anonymously throughout December. At this time the names of the giftees will be revealed, so everyone will get to find out for whom they've written/drawn. Author/artist reveals will be posted after Jan 1.

You can join the Honeydukes Deluxe exchange by responding to the sign-up post with a comment giving the following information:

If you have any questions about how this is going to work, please ASK. Since this is the first time we are combining fests in this manner there may be a few learning curves. But we are excited and hope you decide to join us.
Rules:
- Participants must be 18 years old or older before December 1, 2013.
- Snape/Harry must be the primary pairing of all creations. Secondary pairings are allowed but the primary pairing must include Snape/Harry.
- Creations may be of any rating from G - NC-17.
- FIC: The minimum word count for Honeydukes Deluxe fics is 3,000 words. There is no maximum. The minimum word count for Honeydukes Sampler fics is 300. There is no maximum.
- ART: Honeydukes Deluxe art entries should be detailed entries typically including full background and/or color or be multi-paneled. See an example here, here or here. Honeydukes Sampler art entries include art without detailed background and/or color or a group of icons. See an example here.
- All authors and artists are expected to follow their recipient's request in both the Deluxe and the Sampler versions of the Secret Snarry Swap. While you do not have to include every single element they requested, please try to honour the request to the best of your ability. The most important considerations are 1) avoiding all deal-breakers and 2) including at least one of the things they requested.
- If your Honeydukes Deluxe recipient drops out or some other situation causes your entry to be orphaned, your entry will be gifted to either a pinch hitter or the community. The mods will do their best to ensure that all Honeydukes Deluxe participants receive a Deluxe level gift, but in the case of pinch-hits this cannot be guaranteed.
As with all
snape_potter fests, you will be given the option to have the mods go through the entries for basic SPaG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar) errors and wonky coding, however, we are no substitute for an actual beta. All fics should be beta-read or at the very least SPaG-proofed. If you need a beta, please contact the mods and we will make every attempt to assist you. - For fic, your story should be submitted in fully post-ready form. That means that we should be able to copy and paste from your document right into a livejournal html posting window without making changes. It is a good idea to test your coding by making a private-locked post before submitting.
- Submit your fic as .doc, .rtf, or .txt. No gdocs or .docx and please turn off "curly quotes".
- Fics must include basic HTML tags for bold, italics, etc. If you are unfamiliar with HTML coding,
phoenixacid has posted a Beginner's Guide to HTML Coding.- Fic creations will be posted anon. We prefer art to be unsigned until after reveals are posted, but with the possibility of uncredited art being reposted elsewhere without artist permission, signed art is permitted. However, both art and fic headers will reflect an anonymous status until the reveals are announced.
- You may not post your creations elsewhere until after the big reveal.

HONEYDUKES DELUXE - EXCHANGE
Q. What do you mean by an 'anonymous double-blind' exchange?
A. It means that neither the gifter nor the recipient know the identity of the other before the reveals. Participants will be creating gifts based on their recipient's sign-up information alone.
Q. Do I have to be willing to identify 3 sign-ups to claim? What if I only really want to create my first choice?
A. Then this may not be the exchange for you and you may be more comfortable with the Sampler portion of this fest. We will always make every effort to assign people their first choice, but that won't always be possible. Flexibility is the key to this exchange.
Q. I know I can create several gifts. Can I be assigned more than one sign-up?
A. Each participant of the Honeydukes Deluxe will create one gift and receive one gift. But if you are willing to provide a second (or third!) gift as a pinch hit, please let us know in your sign-up or you may want to consider claiming a prompt from the Sampler when the time comes.
Q. I think I could create something for any sign-up. Do I have to claim a specific sign-up?
A. If you feel you can create a gift from any of the Deluxe sign-ups, please let us know in your claim so you can be assigned last.
Q. What happens if I won't be in front of my computer when claiming begins?
A. The reality is that no matter what day or time we open sign-ups someone will always have a conflict. Hopefully when you are available you will still be able to find a prompt that you feel excited about creating. As long as you steer clear of any deal-breakers, most recipients will be excited just to know that someone created something just for them.
Q. Do I have to include all my recipient's prompts and likes in the gift I create?
A. No. The gift you create does NOT have to include all prompt suggestions and likes in your recipient's sign-up. But it should include at least one as well as none of their deal-breakers.
Q. Can I request a specific type of gift? Like 'fic only'?
A. For greater flexibility, we ask that people not limit their prompts in this manner. But if you have a preference you can note that you would especially like to receive fic in the "I especially like" portion of the sign-up.
Q. What will happen to gifts where the recipient has dropped out?
A. Orphaned Deluxe gifts will be gifted to the community or re-gifted to pinch-hitters.
Q. Does signing up for Deluxe mean that I am both writing/drawing on the Deluxe level and receiving on the Deluxe level?
A. Yes. If you sign up to write for the Deluxe level, you will receive at that level. We will make sure to keep the sign-up information separate to ensure you receive the appropriate gift.
HONEYDUKES SAMPLER - PROMPT
Q. I'm not a writer or an artist and I can't make icons. Can I still leave prompts and receive a gift even though I'm not giving one?
A. Yes. Anyone can submit a prompt without obligation (though it's nice to return the favor when you can).
Q. Will everyone who leaves a Sampler prompt get a gift?
A. As with all prompt fests it is possible your prompt will not be claimed. The only way to guarantee you will receive a gift is to sign up for the Deluxe exchange. However, depending on the number of prompts and participants we will make every effort to see that everyone receives at least one gift. Though the best way to be ensure everyone gets a gift is to participate as an author, artist, icon or craft-maker yourself.
Q. Can I request the mods assign me a prompt?
A. Yes. Just let us know if there are any restrictions on what you are willing to write/draw/craft and we will be happy to assign you a prompt.
Q. Can I claim more than one Sampler prompt?
A. Yes. But you must turn in your completed entry before claiming another.
Q. Am I allowed to participate in both the Deluxe and Sampler part of the fest?
A. Yes.
Q. What happens if I am so inspired by my prompt that my Sampler gift fic grows to super size?
A. That's fine. There is no maximum word count in either category. But if you think it's likely you will greatly exceed the suggested limits for a Sampler fic or piece of art, please consider signing up for the Deluxe category or volunteering to pinch hit.
