The Only Truth That Sticks, by Musesfool

2008-05-26

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Only Truth That Sticks
Author: [info]musesfool
Summary: She feels like a foolish old woman, taken in by a man who had probably been laughing up his sleeve at her the whole time.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: G

Why?

Post-HBP, you can't write Snape/Minerva fic without taking into account that Snape killed Minerva's mentor, boss and friend.

Minerva has been betrayed by her lover, and then betrayed, in a way, by Albus, and both revelations are hard to swallow. The end is slightly hopeful, very bittersweet, and yet... This is not a happy story, but it packs quite a punch.

Docet Minervam, by the Reel Lifer

2008-03-08

[Harry Potter]

Title: Docet Minervam
Author: Grace/The Reel Lifer [info]doctorv
Summary: Set during Harry's second year: McGonagall, Lockhart, and Snape in the staff room. Is Lockhart, for once, not completely oblivious? (Probably not.)
Pairing: Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: G

Why?

This is short and pure fluff, the kind of fic that leaves you with an awww feeling. It showcases both Snape's and Minerva's humour, especially in contrast to Lockhart's cluelessness.

Five Ways Ekaterin Never Met Miles at Twenty, by Sahiya

2007-08-23

[Vorkosigan]

Title: Five Ways Ekaterin Never Met Miles at Twenty
Author: Sahiya [info]sahiya
Summary: Regret . . . And what if she and Miles had met at twenty, instead of she and Tien? It had been possible; she’d been a student at the Vorbarra District University, he’d been a newly minted officer in and out of the capital. If their paths had crossed, might she have won a less bitter life? — p. 534, A Civil Campaign
Pairing: Miles Vorkosigan/Ekaterin Vorsoisson
Rating: G

Why?

A slightly bittersweet look at what could have happened. We get the full range of Ekaterin’s characterisation: from an Ekaterin who’s entirely taken with physical attributes to an Ekaterin who can look past the physical to Miles’ brains and sense of humour.

Writ Finer, by Carmarthen

2007-07-30

[Shakespeare - Twelfth Night]

Title: Writ Finer
Author: [info]carmarthen
Summary: Olivia married Sebastian, but she wanted Cesario.
Characters/Pairing: Olivia, Sebastian, Viola
Rating: G

Why?

I've never been really satisfied by the resolution of Twelfth Night. Olivia fell in love with Cesario, and Sebastian wasn't quite the same thing. Here we have Olivia longing for Viola, while trapped in her life and the convention of the time. Beautiful language, as well.

Death in the Tuileries, by Dafna Greer

2007-06-11

[Dorothy L. Sayers - Lord Peter Wimsey]

Title: Death in the Tuileries
Author: Dafna Greer [info]dafnagreer
Summary: Paris. 1915. Wimsey and Bunter's first case.
Characters/Pairing: Lord Peter Wimsey, Bunter.
Rating: G

Why?

Because it was written for me, for one thing. And because it's a perfect illustration of Wimsey and Bunter's first meeting. We get a glimpse of their future collaboration, and of Wimsey's desire to do the right thing, regardless of the actual law.
