Commonplace Magic, by Acid and Sinick

2009-03-25

[Harry Potter]

Title: Commonplace Magic
Author: [info]ac1d6urn and [info]sinick
Summary: No doom of the wizarding world hanging in the balance, no tragic premature deaths. Just Harry getting inside a solitary man's defences, by not really trying.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape
Rating: NC-17
Warning: AR/non-magic

Why?

May Acid and Sinick go on writing such excellent fics forever. It's AU non-magic, a genre I normally hate, and yet I loved it to pieces.

Snape is suitably ugly and grumpy, and Harry is suitably thick. The writing is slow and beautiful, and London is as much a character as Harry and Snape.

A Little Touch Of Harry In the Night, by Amanuensis

2008-08-17

[Harry Potter]

Title: A Little Touch Of Harry In the Night
Author: [info]amanuensis
Summary: A Potterverse take on Shakespeare's Henry V with an AU Harry who's not really as nice as we remember him. Bit of a bastard, actually. That's okay; I got to write more sex that way. Shakespeare purists will just freak.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger, Harry Potter/Colin Creevey, Harry Potter/Severus Snape, Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy (plus a bit of Slytherin debauchery)
Rating: NC-17
Warning: AU, implied rape, dub-con

Why?

A deliciously dark and chilling Harry. While the setting is unmistakably the Wizarding World, the plot follows Henry V closely, without ever seeming forced. It does help that it's one of my favourite plays, and that the fic includes one of my favourite scenes from it (II.ii, for the record). You don't need to know the play to read the story, but it definitely makes it more interesting.

Good Life Becoming, by Sansa

2008-08-16

[Harry Potter]

Title: Good Life Becoming
Author: Sansa [info]sansa1970
Summary: What does it take to turn animosity into something else? Harry, Severus and Draco form a binding friendship that evolves into much more. The events that bring them together also threaten to tear them apart.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy/Severus Snape
Rating: NC-17
Warning: threesome

Why?

A tale of friendship that turns to love, one of my favourite topics. It's quite bittersweet, in the end, but the way the three men find themselves and each other is lovely.

The Misadventures of Draco Malfoy, Ferret, by Saber ShadowKitten

2008-07-25

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Misadventures of Draco Malfoy, Ferret
Author: Saber ShadowKitten [info]sabershadowkat
Summary: Snape turns Draco into a ferret for his own protection. He would've been safer with the Dark Lord.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy
Rating: R
Warning: bestiality, mpreg

Why?

The premise is complete and utter crack. But the execution, while still hilariously funny, manages to pull it off without ever falling into ooc-ness. Draco's inner voice, in particular, is to die for.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice, by Jacquez

2008-07-15

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Author: [info]jacquez
Summary: Harry becomes Snape's apprentice. Snark ensues.
Characters: Harry Potter, Severus Snape
Rating: PG

Why?

A thorough description of new branches of magic, which is one of my literary kinks. The relationship between Snape and Harry is never sugar-coated, and very complex.

Unfortunately discontinued, but the first part is complete.

The Only Truth That Sticks, by Musesfool

2008-05-26

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Only Truth That Sticks
Author: [info]musesfool
Summary: She feels like a foolish old woman, taken in by a man who had probably been laughing up his sleeve at her the whole time.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: G

Why?

Post-HBP, you can't write Snape/Minerva fic without taking into account that Snape killed Minerva's mentor, boss and friend.

Minerva has been betrayed by her lover, and then betrayed, in a way, by Albus, and both revelations are hard to swallow. The end is slightly hopeful, very bittersweet, and yet... This is not a happy story, but it packs quite a punch.

30 Minutes Over Kandahar, by Vulgarweed

2008-03-17

[Harry Potter]

Title: 30 Minutes Over Kandahar
Author: [info]vulgarweed
Summary: Why are flying carpets banned by the British Ministry of Magic?
Pairing: Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: NC-17
Warning: erotic asphyxiation, Animagus bestiality

Why?

This one is kinky, just look at the warnings. And yet, don't let them frighten you off, because even if they're not really things you would normally enjoy, they work amazingly well here.

The little touches of humour are what really makes the story, for me. The flying carpet--because they are on a flying carpet!--is not at all cooperating, and Snape has the strangest thoughts entering his head, at the most inappropriate times.

Home Studies, by Beth

2008-03-16

[Harry Potter]

Title: Home Studies
Author: Beth [info]bethbethbeth
Summary: Post-Hogwarts: A Life.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: PG

Why?

Because the writing is utterly gorgeous! The story is entirely from Minerva's point of view, and we see her relationship with Snape through her eyes. They're first and foremost friends, and their love is just the logical continuation of that friendship.

It's a completely self-aware look at a mature relationship, where the couple is old and ugly, and it's okay.

One of my favourite fics in this pairing, I can only urge you to read it, even if you have little interest in the pairing.

Docet Minervam, by the Reel Lifer

2008-03-08

[Harry Potter]

Title: Docet Minervam
Author: Grace/The Reel Lifer [info]doctorv
Summary: Set during Harry's second year: McGonagall, Lockhart, and Snape in the staff room. Is Lockhart, for once, not completely oblivious? (Probably not.)
Pairing: Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: G

Why?

This is short and pure fluff, the kind of fic that leaves you with an awww feeling. It showcases both Snape's and Minerva's humour, especially in contrast to Lockhart's cluelessness.

Fourteen Fathoms, by Vain

2007-12-22

[Harry Potter]

Title: Fourteen Fathoms
Author: Vain [info]vain
Summary: Snape discovers something disturbing about Harry and acts . . . like Snape.
Characters: Severus Snape, Harry Potter
Rating: R
Warning: implied child abuse

Why?

Very few Harry-was-abused-physically-by-the-Dursleys stories work, for me, because the situation is often too exaggerated to be believable. Yet here, the writing is very sparse and very little is stated outright, and somehow you imagine much worse horrors than what's said.

I'm not sure that the second person, and especially the switch from second person to third, are the best possible choices, stylistically, but they do work rather well.

A dark fic that will leave a shiver down your spine.

An incompletely edited manuscript, for consideration by the Board, by Leni Jess

2007-12-16

[Harry Potter]

Title: An incompletely edited manuscript, for consideration by the Board
Author: Leni Jess [info]leni_jess
Summary: The Board's last chance to decide whether a biography of Severus Snape (even disguised as a collection of essays) is really a good idea.
Characters: Severus Snape, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, Lucius Malfoy, OCs
Rating: PG-13

Why?

One of the oddest, most original fics I've ever read. External point of view is tricky to get right, but this is quite brilliantly done. Three different looks at Snape, framed by a letter from an editor to a publisher (and what brilliant voice does the editor have!)

Learning to Uncurl, by Amorette

2007-12-13

[Harry Potter]

Title: Learning to Uncurl
Author: Amorette [info]amorettea
Summary: A decade after hostilities are over, Harry finds his Animagus form to be terribly relaxing and since he thinks Snape needs to learn to relax, suggests Snape learn to be an animal as well. Surprises ensue.
Characters: Harry Potter, Severus Snape
Rating: PG

Why?

This fic features Harry and Snape and their Animagus forms; Harry has found great benefits in spending time transformed and he convinces Snape, who never felt comfortable in his Animagus form, to give it a go.

All too often, Animagus forms are seemingly chosen at random, or for potential hilarity value. Nothing like that here: Harry's and Snape's forms are spot-on, and humour, while indeed present, is restrained and perfectly in character.

Delightful, a little gem of a fic. :)

Games of Skill And Chance, by Snowballjane

2007-12-09

[Harry Potter]

Title: Games of Skill And Chance
Author: [info]snowballjane
Summary: The war is over and Severus Snape has one more term left to work at Hogwarts. How does he end up running the school games club and how will it affect him?
Characters: Snape, Lupin, students OC
Rating: PG

Why?

If you told me that there was a fic where Snape ends up voluntarily running the games club at Hogwarts, I would laugh it off as so OOC as to share only Snape's name. And yet, Snowballjane makes it work, here.

The war is over, Snape was wounded, and is just tired of teaching. While looking for another job, he ends up, almost by accident, founding and running a games club involving students of all four houses (yes, even Gryffindor).

All the characters are believable and well-rounded, especially the kids. At no point do you get torn out of the plot and say, "wait, it would never happen like that." An excellent feel-good story, even though you might get a little teary at the end.

Enjoy :)

Laughter of the Gods, by Llama

2007-12-09

[Harry Potter]

Title: Laughter of the Gods
Author: Llama [info]fluffyllama
Summary: On his last day at Hogwarts, Harry makes more than one mistake… but he's not the only one.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Harry Potter
Rating: NC-17
Warning: dubious consent, underage, caning

Why?

See Snape trying to be more clever and Slytherin than Harry. See Snape fail. Utterly :)

Hot and hilarious!

The Civil War series, by Sushi

2007-12-06

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Civil War series
Author: Sushi [info]wikdsushi
Summary: Snape and Harry find some common ground and a bit of comfort in the process.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Harry Potter
Rating: NC-17
Warning: underage, incest, rape, violence

Why?

Is it necessary to present the Civil War series? You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll never be the same again. I felt wrung out from all the angst, but the end is surprisingly funny and uplifting.

The Tao of Diogenes, by the Treacle Tart

2007-09-09

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Tao of Diogenes
Author: The Treacle Tart [info]thetreacletart
Summary: The war is finally over and two veterans meet again... for the very first time.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Ron Weasley
Rating: R

Why?

Put two very headstrong men, scarred physically and emotionally by the war, in a situation neither can escape, shake well, and observe the results. Always a favourite plot of mine, especially when it's handled brillantly, like here.

Keep in mind that it was written pre-HBP, so the characterisations might seem a bit off.

Surprised by Harry, by RaeWhit

2007-09-03

[Harry Potter]

Title: Surprised by Harry
Author: RaeWhit [info]joanwilder
Summary: Severus Snape has always thought himself rather immune to surprise. Until one night under an enchanting moon of August, a chance encounter with Harry Potter sets him up for the biggest surprise of his life.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape
Rating: NC-17
Warning: rimming

Why?

I like stories when Harry and Severus don't do anything to fall in love. It just happens, and one day they wake up and they've been sleeping together and living together and planning holidays together, and they just are. But acceptance does not mean forgiveness, and the course of true love never did run smooth ;)

A Fool Too Late, by Atrata

2007-08-29

[Harry Potter]

Title: A Fool Too Late
Author: [info]atrata
Summary: Harry goes to rescue Professor Lupin, but it doesn't go quite the way he'd planned.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Harry Potter/Remus Lupin
Rating: Nc-17
Warning: chan (Harry's 13), object penetration, double penetration

Why?

The fic that brought my object penetration kink to the fore. Deliciously dirty, featuring too-naive!Harry, bastard!Snape, and looks-nice-but-is-really-a-bastard-of-the-first-order!Lupin.

The Apple Tree, by Philo

2007-08-25

[Harry Potter]

Title: The Apple Tree
Author: Philo
Summary: Harry returns for his seventh year determined to change the status quo.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape
Rating: NC-17
Warning: underage

Why?

One of the best superpowered!Harry I’ve read, though not without its problems. Though quite different from canon!Harry, Harry is quite attaching, and his relationship with Snape builds believably.

Caveat lector

The main problem I had with it was the numerous plot twists, which make the fic a veritable angst-fest. With a lesser writer, I probably would have abandoned the fic midway, but Philo does manage to pull it off.

Dirty, Dirty Boys, by Miz Tyrious

2007-08-25

Title: Dirty, Dirty Boys
Author: Miz Tyrious [info]miz_tyrious
Summary: Detention in the dungeons is dirty, dirty business.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape
Rating: NC-17
Warning: chan, underage sex, dubious consent, caning, spanking, biting, frottage, comeplay, sloppy seconds, foreskin play, bukkake, rimming, felching, role-play.

Why?

Mmm, non-guilt inducing chan. Quite filthy, and hot.
