I like stories when Harry and Severus don't do anything to fall in love. It just happens, and one day they wake up and they've been sleeping together and living together and planning holidays together, and they just are. But acceptance does not mean forgiveness, and the course of true love never did run smooth ;)
Suddenly he was exhausted. He felt the crumbling of the façade that the world had known for so many years as Severus Snape. He experienced a gut-wrenching torque in the universe of “I am”, a dissolving of the matrix that had kept him upright and in character for so long. He was filled with a profound ego confusion as he realized that he no longer knew who he was, or what he might become.
He looked down at his hands, no longer aware of the room or the questions that continued to come. His world was tilting precariously as that little inner voice whispered, “Game over”. As much as he welcomed it, this final release from duplicity, an acute sense of loss washed over him. He was now set adrift in a world where he had no clearly defined role, and the strangeness of it threatened to overwhelm him. He had long grown accustomed to loneliness, but now he felt the bitterness of it, the brutal finality of it, for the very first time. It was as if his recitation of his curriculum vitae had emptied the well of his soul, and the void of it was agonizingly painful.
He swallowed with difficulty, then looked up as he realized that the room had grown silent again. All eyes were on him, and he knew that he had lost time, that there was a question hanging in the air that they waiting for him to answer.
“I’m sorry. Could you please repeat that?” he asked in a daze. As he mechanically replied to the last of the inquiries, he was aware of Harry watching him, his face puzzled and concerned.
