Summary: Snape thinks about traditions, and finds a reason for one of them. Unbeta'd. Sorry if it doesn't make sense. This takes place in my "Allieverse" - visit smiths_potters for more info/stories/videos/art in this 'verse.
As traditions went, it wasn't one that Snape had ever considered worth his time. Of course, it had nothing to do with the fact that, by definition, it was not something one could do alone. No, even if he had someone offer to help him with this particular tradition, he would have simply huffed and gone off to bed.
That is, until he met her.
Every time he looked at her his heart ached, blissfully. Every time he heard her laugh, or saw her face in the sun, and even the way she twirled around. She had become a reason to look forward to every day. Every glimpse of her would send his heart fluttering again, and every time she smiled, he found inside of him a renewed interest in life.
A reason for living? Perhaps; although, he hadn't needed a reason before. She was more a reason for trying.
If he were to participate in the tradition of greeting the new year with a kiss, it could only be with her.
"Happy New Year, my love," Snape whispered as he heard the clock chime at midnight, kissing the top of Alstromeria's head as she slept softly in his arms.
