I've been plugging away at my work in 15-minute spurts today, taking lots of breaks to gaze at it. And thanks to her mad skilz I've got DeRo icons now!! *points up to the pretty*

Fajrdrako at LJ is posting lots of John Barrowman beauty, and I think it needs to be spread here: Here's his new video, which is absolutely gorgeous in its different depictions of love. And JB's pretty in an almost unearthly way. I just wish I didn't hate that style of music so much. And then for cuteness overload there's PUPPIES! You just get JB's voiceover here, but "Scotty" and the pups more than make up for it. |

Mom said it was "black tie and tails" for dinner, and we couldn't eat until we had drawn our black tie and tails on our post-its. So we all drew something and stuck it to our shirts.
The hippo candle holder served as cake stand-in for the singing and candle-blowing portion of the evening.
(Dad's birthday is Wednesday, but he's off on a business trip tomorrow so we had dinner last night.)

Liz Phair's Exile In Guyville came out 15 years ago. That was a real time of transition for me -- I'd just left a place I loved and moved to a place I despised; where I'd been surrounded by political activists and cultural literates, I was suddenly in a desert, both literally and figuratively. I only lasted four months in Tucson, but I remember three things fondly from that time: Brisco Co. Junior, the beginning of my friendship with the Ex, and the album that I completely wore out by a woman who was so shy she could hardly perform on stage but whose songs perfectly spoke to where I was in those days.
Liz Phair is revisiting the album in some live performances (how I wish I could see one!) and NPR has her October 5th concert that you can stream. I'm listening to it now, and boggling to think it's been 15 years! (And crazy that I remember all the words!)
In much more current news, yesterday I enjoyed an impromptu Ottawa Slashers meeting. It's so much fun to squee over True Blood and bitch about SGA in person! The outing was followed by a little shopping research trip to Venus Envy. I'm quite tempted to get a Hitachi wand in their xmas sale, although a bit disturbed that my mom had one (she kept it in her drawer by her heating pad, and I never, ever asked...)

The NDP asked if I could put up a window sign and I said sure, so for the past week I've had Paul Dewer staring at me. After doing some running around a little while ago I was hot and sweaty so I took off my top. And saw dear old Paul leering. :( I had to move the sign to the kitchen window. |

| Johnson Rayburn Richards Fundraising Dinner 2008 |

So last night Mom and I attended the Harris County Democratic Party's fundraising event as table guests of a friend of ours who is a judicial candidate this year.
There were some great speakers, a lot of laughs, a really good video, and lots and lots of hobnobbing candidates. Gen. Clark gave a fantastic keynote address. It's exciting to see so much enthusiasm and real hope for change.
It was also wonderful to see old friends that we haven't seen in ages, and catch up with them. Mom and I fangirled Senfronia Thompson when she spoke, too. Yay standing ovation!

| A whole lot of random |

It's been an onion dip night. For some strange reason, that stuff is my comfort food when I'm feeling stressed. I resisted all week, but tonight, once I relaxed, I gorged.
But I had a wonderfully refreshing Saturday. Having a clean house helped immensely -- not just because it was clean, but more because I didn't have that guilty "I should tidy" feeling. Instead I lounged about, napped with my cat, caught up on hd_inspired's Back to School Fest... Which reminds me: I've been meaning to rec Snugs and Slails. It's a completely crackfed idea that turns into something more, and so far it's my favourite of the fest.
I poked at a bit of writing too, made a miniscule amount of headway on one story, and outlined another that has grown from a manageable medium-length fic into an epic. *headdesks* I wonder if it'll ever happen. Seems the only dependable writing I can manage is my weekly drabble for draco100 ... oh, and harry100, which is starting up this week! YAY! Go join!!
I've been spending too much time reading the US political news, I'm afraid, and I fear this next month is going to get really ugly. Not looking forward to it. I do wonder why commentators (mostly male ones) keep saying that it's "surprising" that Sarah Palin does better with male voters than female ones. Women have long known that few things work faster than a wink and cloying smile from a pretty girl in getting a man to change a tire or open a stuck pickle jar. To see those same tactics used by someone aspiring to a major office is disgusting.
I am feeling cautiously optimistic, though. I've never in my adult life voted for the winning presidential candidate (I missed the 1992 vote because I was living in Ireland), but I wonder if this could be the year (at least in the US -- Canada looks like a lost cause). Maybe I'm just feeling a little more hopeful because who doesn't when the Boss talks like this?

Mom and I are attending the Johnson-Rayburn-Richards Democratic Fundraising Dinner, with featured speaker retired General Wesley Clark. We are going with a family friend who is running for local office.
Should be an interesting evening. |

*rubs eyes* I continued with changing the format of my fic pages on my site and my eyes are hurting from staring at all that html code. I don't know how coders can do it all day. I think I am halfway done as I still need to fix up my Sports RPF fics and my Misc fics.
I'm going to attempt to do some drabbles because drabbles are lovely and I only have enough in me for something of that length. *glances at her unfinished Sam/Dean fic*
Mind is still mush from watching last night's Supernatural episode. So much so that I dreamed it, though if you ask me what it was about, I couldn't tell you. I just know that I did for parts of my dream. And yeah, I still can't ship Dean/Castiel on its own. Dean/Castiel is only okay for me if there's Dean/Sam somewhere in that mix. Which is weird because I will ship Dean/Gordon in a heartbeat and maybe Dean/Victor as a friendship ship. Hrm, what other male on the show did Dean have a connection to that isn't Bobby or John? Ship me any of the women together, however, and I will jump on that to kingdom come!
I may or may not be outlining a femslash fic between Ellen Harvelle and Pamela Barnes. Oh yeah, baby. |

I've been working on my site, changing each fic page to contain feedback posts linking back to my IJ. I figure it'll be the easiest for me in the long run. So far I've fixed up my Harry Potter and Supernatural drabbles, Supernatural fics, and Charmed fics.
