RP: The Brazen Unicorn
WHO: Terry, anyone who'd like to have a little fun!
WHERE: The Brazen Unicorn
WHEN: Friday night, around 10pm
WHAT: Funtimes at the pub
RATING: We'll see, won't we? Likely not above PG-13
WARNINGS: N/A
STATUS: Started

Terry couldn't explain why he was so restless tonight. It wasn't work, which had been brisk but managebale. It wasn't the the fact that his bestmates were no where to be seen lately, as far as he could tell. It wasn't even the fact that he was stalled on the novel again, stuck at a crossroads as far as the main character went. He was pretty sure he'd worked out a new plotline to fix things, and it wasn't weighing on his mind.

So, he had no choice but to conclude that it was just one of those unexplainable moods. He hoped that a night out with his friends--mostly girls this time around--at a new club would at least cure him of the blues a little bit.

They'd arranged to meet at ten o'clock at the pub, so Terry had dressed as best he could--in jeans that were slightly too tight he thought, and a dark green shirt--but hadn't bothered with his hair. It would do what it wanted anyway.

He was the first to arrive, and he stuck his hands in his pockets, trying not to feel too conspicuous our out of place as he bounced on his heels on the pavement, waiting for someone to show up.

Like most Friday nights, Seamus was tending bar at The Brazen Unicorn. Some people might be less than happy about having the weekends be when they put in most of their work hours. But when your place of employment was a pub, and a constantly busy, popular one at that, you really didn’t have any room to complain. He supposed that at some point in his life he was going to have to get a ‘regular’ job, the kind that involved a desk or paperwork, possibly both. But for now he was perfectly happy behind a bar and wasn’t in any particular hurry to do anything else.

As usual by this point on Fridays, there were already plenty of people present, and the crowd would only get thicker as the night went on. There was a throng of people dancing, a decent amount at the bar, and the air was filled with that noise that was customary to such places- a lively buzz that was a mix of music and conversations and energy going full swing. The pub itself was pretty colorful, a far cry from some of the darker, grittier places around. Like most pubs, there would always be certain people who came in to drown their sorrows and bemoan their misfortunes, but here there were always far more people who were looking to celebrate the good things and just enjoy themselves. Catching sight of Terry, Seamus waved him over to the bar. He knew some of his mates would be showing up at some point since there had been an outing planned, and it looked like the first had arrived. “Was wonderin’ when any of ye lot would show up. What’ll it be, Terry?”

Terry finally decided to just go inside, instead of standing out on the pavement like a complete wet blanket. Plus, it was getting cold and he hadn't brought a jacket, and the wind was starting to make him shiver.

The pub was pretty busy, but it was also cozy and there was a general sense of good cheer among the patrons. Terry moved right up to the bar and smiled with relief when Seamus came over.

"I think I'm the first one here," Terry said, hopping up on a stool and grinning brightly at Seamus. "Umm...I don't know. What would you recommend?" He always enjoyed talking with Seamus, and tried very hard not to flirt awkwardly or anything. It was always a risk he took with attractive mates, but he did his best not to make anyone feel uncomfortable around him.

It was just as easy to wait inside where there were people and the possibility of fun than outside in the boring weather. Easier, even, if you asked Seamus. You never knew who you were going to meet when out at a pub, and especially at a place like The Unicorn. It was always worth coming in and just having a seat no matter where you were.

Terry needn’t worry. With the variety of folks that came in and out of here, it took a lot for him to get uncomfortable. Besides, Terry was a nice guy, so any pushing of boundaries that might occur would be easily forgiven and probably not even mentioned. Besides, being friendly juust on that edge of flirty was practically in the job description for him. And it helped with tips and all that. You’d be amazed how much better tips got with just a little extra bit of amiability. Leaning down on the bar with one elbow, Seamus briefly cast a glance down the line. Everyone seemed to be taken care of the for the moment so there was no reason he couldn’t take some time out for Terry. “Well, you can enjoy yourself til everyone else gets here! And that depends on what kind of drink you’re looking for. Not to toot my own horn, but if you’re into mixed stuff, I make a mean Harvey Wallbanger, if you’re looking for something simpler- rum and coke, our house rum is excellent, or if you’re a purist, firewhisky is always a sure bet.” Plenty of choices there, and Seamus made sure to cover the bases of the main drinking types they got in here. He knew people often liked to keep to their drinking comfort zone and stick to a certain types of drinks at first. But the night was still young.

Terry had no idea what a Harvey Wallbanger was, and wrinkled his nose in confusion. "What's that then? The Wallbanger one?" he asked, leaning forward a little so that he could hear Seamus over the loud crowd. "Firewhiskey makes me fall over, actually, so I'll stay away from that for now." He blushed as he admitted that fact. He knew he was a lightweight, and his friends knew he was, but it always somewhat embarrassed him to admit it.

“It’s orange juice, vodka, and a little something else to sweeten it up.” It was a pretty simple combination, but Seamus had found that oftentimes the simple recipes were better than the complicated ones. Not only with the time you put into making them, which really shouldn’t slow any decent bartender down regardless, but they were often smoother and just for some reason went down better. All his opinion, of course. And you’ll have to forgive Seamus, Terry. Sometimes he just spouts off drink names, muggle and wizarding as recommendations. He gets that question a lot during his shifts so the recommendations kind of go with whatever’s on the top of his head he thinks the person asking would like.

Nothing wrong with being a lightweight. Seamus knew he fell on the other end of the spectrum when it came to drinking and really, he didn’t expect anyone to be able to keep up with him. And he would never make fun of anyone for whatever their tolerance may be. He might be a heavy drinker, but he’s a good spirited one. There was the automatic mental note that mixed drinks would probably be the best for Terry for tonight. Don’t worry, Terry, he’s looking out for you already.

This was exciting. She'd not had a night out in a while, so Susan took her sweet time primping and getting ready. Tonight was going to be about having fun and forgetting that no one had come into the shop today.

Checking her appearance in the mirror one last time, she smiled. Hair, check. Makeup, but not too much, check. Suitably flashy (and slightly revealing, but again not too much) outfit, check. Ooh, and her new purple shoes, which actually did match because hello, her top was black. She'd sort of forgotten that black matched anything. Purple and yellow went well together too, although she didn't particularly want to look colorblind and why was she still standing here debating this with herself? Hannah was waiting on her.

Practically skipping out of her building, she gave her hair one last fluff and proceeded to Apparate just outside the Brazen Unicorn, looking around for her friend.

Hannah couldn't even remember the last time she'd gone out like this- she'd gone out with Wayne, of course, but she and Susan were severely lacking in girl-time lately. The invitation had surprised her, but she'd jumped at the chance- and was, admittedly, rather glad to not need to agonize over what to wear, quickly settling on a simple patterned sundress and her habitual pink Chucks (which didn't quite match, but they were comfortable and Hannah didn't care).

Arriving just outside the Brazen Unicorn, Hannah quickly spotted her friend. "Susan!" she called, waving before walking over and quickly embracing her.

"Hannah!" One of two besties wasn't bad at all. Especially when you were like Susan and lucky enough to have two that were so fabulous. Besides, she'd not spent nearly enough time with Hannah lately, and tonight she planned to rectify that. Hugging her friend tightly, she grinned, stepping back and linking her arm through Hannah's.

"I'm glad you decided to come out tonight. You look great! How's Wayne? I feel like I haven't seen you guys in forever. Which is something that definitely needs to be changed." She tugged Hannah into the loud pub, pitching her voice so she could still be heard. "So what have you been doing lately? I'll save you the time of asking me and tell you absolutely nothing."

She blushed at the compliment, but quickly replied, "You look great, too, of course!" Hannah glanced around the pub as they walked inside- she'd never been here before. "Wayne's good," she continued, speaking louder as Susan had. "And me? I- well, I go to work? That's horribly boring, I know. I think I became an adult when I wasn't looking."

"Ugh, who wants to be an adult?" Susan teased, sticking her tongue out. "Certainly not me. Well, except for the earning-money part, that part I like. Well, tell Wayne that I said hello and that if he could please dig up even a tiny mystery for me to solve, that would be lovely."

She led the way to the bar, tugging at the ends of her hair as she contemplated what she wanted. Something with an obscene name, maybe. Or obscenely colored. That would be even better.

"What are you getting?"

"Trust me, I'm not happy about it, either," Hannah assured Susan, quickly. She laughed, then added, "I'll be sure to have him keep an eye out for some mysteries."

Hannah glanced at the drink menu, considering, then replied, "A grasshopper, I think. At least to start," she added with a wink to Susan.

"You have him do that." Susan nodded decisively. With all of her friends on the lookout something would come up soon enough.

Susan looked over at the drink menu, her eyes scanning for something that looked interesting. Grinning, she nodded again. "I think I'm going with a liquid cocaine. Sounds sketchy, but I've read the recipe before and it's all sorts of fruity and delicious sounding."

They placed their orders and waited, Susan running her fingers through her hair and looking around for familiar faces.

"The best drinks usually sound sketchy," she said, laughing. "So long as mine has an umbrella, I'm happy." Hannah glanced back to the bar, and was happy to see their two drinks waiting- each with a color-coordinated umbrella. She reached for hers, then handed Susan's over as well. "Cheers!"

"Yes, yay for umbrellas," Susan agreed, raising her glass and then happily taking a large sip. "And you're right. The one with the most obscene names usually taste the best."

Toying with the umbrella in her drink, she leaned against the bar and sighed. "This is good, but where are all the hot blokes?"

Hannah took a sip of her drink, smiling as the warm aftertaste of alcohol went through her. "I'm not sure," she admitted, shaking her head and laughing a bit. "I'm not allowed to look for them anymore, though, you know that."
