Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Verity, Terence
WHAT: The morning after.
WHERE: Still Vegas, likely.
WHEN: Sunday morning.
RATING: PG-13 for language and tiny mentions of previously occurring adult...activities? Nothing awful.
STATUS: Complete

Ugh. Her head hurt. Her head hurt, and it was way too bright, she could tell that through her eyelids. Cracking one eye opened, Verity noticed that she was in a rather tackily decorated suite, so she groaned and rolled to her other side.

Her eyes snapped open and she tried her hardest not to shriek. Terence was lying there. And they were both naked. And she was...rather pleasantly sore. Except that it was Terence, and so it was not pleasant, and she was beginning to freak out at the fact that she had obviously gotten drunk and slept with her daughter's father. Again.

They had a bad habit of doing this, although it hadn't happened in a while. Ugh. It was a habit that she needed to break.

Gingerly edging out of the bed, she tried to tug the sheet along with her and realized after pulling on it for a moment that Terence wasn't going to give it up. Her attention was taken away from her annoyance at that, though, by the light glinting off of a tacky ring. On her left ring finger.

This time she did scream.

Terence sprang awake instantly, one hand on his wand, eyes wide as he searched for the threat. And then, as soon as he'd assessed the situation and realized there was no immediate threat--his head caught up to him, and his stomach swam and he slumped back to the bed with a groan.

"Fuck Ver, would you shut up and come back to bed?" he mumbled, eyes closed to keep out the light. As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized what was wrong with that sentence. "Verity, what the hell are you doing in my bed?"

He cracked open his eyes and peered at her, trying to ignore the pounding in his head. "And why are you wearing that ugly ring?" If he'd been less hungover and more awake, he'd have realized immediately what the ring meant, but as it was it took him several seconds to realize what had happened.

"Verity," he said slowly, sitting up and wincing as the room began to spin. "Tell me we didn't get fucking married last night."

Verity's head hurt and so when Terence suggested that she come back to bed, she did, sitting back down and pulling the sheet back over her head. Then his second question hit her. "That's sort of what I was wondering."

When he mentioned the ring, she let out a loud, exasperated sigh. "Don't talk to me. My head hurts and I don't even want to consider the fact that I might have married you last night. I refuse to even consider the possibility. There's no way we were that stupid."

She knew that there was definitely a possibility they were that stupid. She just didn't want to think about it right now. She was just going to hide beneath the blanket.

Terence couldn't explain why her reaction made him so angry. It wasn't as if he thought what they'd done was smart, but was marrying him so awful it required screaming? He completely disregarded the fact that just moments before he'd been swearing and asking her to tell him it hadn't happened, but now that he knew it had happened, he was upset that she didn't seem to be happy. And he knew he was thinking erroneously, but his head hurt and he couldn't help his thought process.

"Like I want to consider I married you," he said, wondering if he should get up. His brain wanted to move, but his body wasn't following suit. "This was not in the plan for this weekend." He was talking almost to himself, but knew the mention of one of his Plans would irritate her. It was why he brought it up to begin with.

"Oh. Right. And we can't screw with the plan!" she shouted from beneath her blanket. And yes. She'd just said that marrying him would have been stupid. But now she was insulted that he was accusing her of screwing up the plan again.

If they had gotten married, he should have been considering himself damn lucky.

"Ugh. No wonder we're in such a tacky room, this must be a honeymoon suite," she remarked, venturing out from beneath the blanket slightly.

"Yes! The Plan is there for a reason, Verity!" he exclaimed, almost shouting but not quite, because he wasn't certain his head could stand it. "It's there to stop things like THIS," he gestured vaguely between them from beneath his portion of the sheet "from happening out of turn!" He wished she could see things his way. It would make things a whole lot easier, if less interesting.

He finally cracked an eye open and noticed the empty bottles of champagne, the rose petals and the gaudy decorations. "Fuck," he muttered and buried his head under the covers. "We really did get married. Okay, we can deal with this. First thing we need to do is come up with a revised Plan."

"Out of turn? Terence, I don't want to hear about your reasons for your plan, all right?" She got up from the bed, completely ignoring that she was totally naked, and planted her hands on her hips, because damn it she had a point to make.

"We. Got. Married. I am not helping you come up with a fucking revision to your plan. I am still trying to process that I not only married my daughter's father, I slept with him again, thereby not allowing me to get an annulment." She glared at him as though the entire thing was his fault-- which, if she thought about it (in a way that made her out to be blameless, naturally) it was, because he was the one who had suggested it.

If Terence hadn't been so angry, seeing he standing there naked would have gotten him riled up for a whole different reason. As it was, all he could focus on was the fact that she'd wanted an annulment, and didn't want to sit down and talk rationally about what they should do.

He stood up as well, wanting to be on the same level as she was, and mirrored her stance. "How the hell else do you think we should deal with this? Close our eyes and pretend it didn't happen?" He was glaring at her, headache forgotten in his anger. "Do you even know how stupid that is? That's what got us in this position to begin with! You pretending that Mickey was your sister and not bothering to tell me about her! SO yes, I think we do need a plan and if you weren't so stupid you'd think so too!"

Verity's jaw nearly dropped, because he knew that more than anything else she hated being called stupid. So often she'd had to work to prove that she wasn't the flighty, brainless blonde that she knew she appeared to be to most people.

"I'm leaving," she said flatly, looking for her dress and underwear and tugging them on quickly. Once she found her wand, she shook her head. "Good bye, Terence. We'll speak about this later. I have to get home to my daughter. I promised her that I would be home in time for lunch."

And with that, she Apparated away.

He knew he should take the words back, try to apologize. He hadn't meant them, but she could make him so angry, and when he was angry he did stupid things.

He also knew he shouldn't let her leave like this. They had to decide what to do, what to tell Mickey. What to tell their family and friends, and if they were going to make this work. He needed to plan, his head was spinning and he was feeling slightly panicky at the thought that there was no plan.

But he could only stand there, hands fisted at his side, as she Apparated away. Once she was gone he sank onto the bed, head in his hands, and wondered what the fuck they were going to do now.
