Title: First Day
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Sirius Black, other family
Prompt: Beginnings
Rating: G
Word Count: 466
Summary: The first day of school arrives and Sirius doesn't want to go.
Authors Note: Not Betaed. This one popped in my head as the first day of school started Monday while I watched all the ickle firsties head to their first day of school and thought of all the parents that fought that war. Yes even in the wizarding world kids don't want to go.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. No money is, was or will be made from this work of fiction. All characters belong to JK Rowling and her imagination. This is a work of fiction. All characters are of the age of consent in this fic. I just like to play in the sandbox. I promise to return them in good working condition. (mostly)
The platform at Kings Cross was bustling with parents and children preparing to board the Hogwarts Express. Sirius was simply positive that his days at school would be pure torment spent in the company of Pure-Blood elitists just like his family. They were all he knew, he was never allowed to play with the Muggle children he saw out in the street. He simply did not want to go to school, especially if the kids were just like his parents.
Sirius tried everything he could think of to delay his departure for school. He cried and screamed but his voice was tiny compared to that of his mothers screams. He even decided to try throwing himself down the stairs to break an arm or leg, surely, his parents wouldn’t send him to school in that condition. Ah, but it seemed his mother was ahead of his game and set her most loyal house-elf Kreacher to watch over him; instead of tumbling down the stairs Sirius found himself suspended in midair floating just above the steps. He would just have to make the best of school and stay as far away from his cousins as he could.
September 1st arrived all too soon as Sirius found himself standing amongst the crowd of people busily attending their last minute goodbyes. A nudge at his side broke his thoughts of dread as his cousin Andromeda had arrived to help settle him on the train. A last pleading look at his mother as Sirius stepped up to board but his mother was talking to his aunt Druella and did not even wave goodbye as the train slowly pulled away from the station. Andromeda led him down the corridor to find a seat.
“Here we are. You can sit in this one until we get to the station at Hogsmeade. I have to go and sit with my friends but you’ll be fine here, there is nothing to worry about. Hogwarts is amazing, I promise.”
“But you can’t just leave me; I don’t know anyone in there. Mum said not to speak to anyone who isn’t in Slytherin. How will I know who’s who?”
“Well, you don’t. You haven’t even been sorted yet. Just be yourself and I bet you’ll make loads of friends before we get there.”
Sirius pulled back the door and stepped inside the small cabin. A boy who looked the same age as Sirius sat on one side by the window. He had terribly messy hair and glasses. Sirius sat down on the bench next to him.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
“So, are you a first year too?”
“Yeah, I’m James. James Potter.”
“Sirius Black.”
“Want to see something?”
“Sure. What?”
Reaching inside his coat pocket James pulled out a shiny Golden Snitch and handed it to Sirius.
“Cool.”
