Title: Bipolar Author: alwaysasnapefan Prompt: #11: Abandon Word count: 200 Rating: PG Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
Bipolar
If Sirius wasn't constantly on, he was off. Sometimes he could stay up longer than anyone, could yell and run and hex with the best of them. Hell, he was the best of them.
But he hated to be alone, even to sulk. Because when he was alone he tended to cry. He didn't think Peter or Remus knew, but James certainly did. James's theory was that you couldn't be on all the time without being off; that a person had to balance out somehow.
James never looked down on him for his emotional shortcomings. James was a great friend.
It only got worse after Azkaban, and the house added to the depression, weighing him down. He just slept and cried and hated himself. But he was always at his best around Harry.
Harry didn't need to see his mood swing back and forth like that (well, depression seemed to be tamping down his manic behavior pretty well anyway).
Except, sometimes he felt the same above-the-world drive that had led him to almost get Snape killed. The same drive that got him killed and, indeed, got him into Gryffindor in the first place. Maybe not exactly bravery. But definitely something.
