James - Awakening. Who: James. What: Awakening. Where: Carpark overlooking Toluca Lake. Status: Complete (I think). Rating: PG (for one naughty word).
He sits slumped over the steering wheel of the car, his face buried in his hands, his eyes squeezed tightly closed as he tries to make some kind of rational sense of his current situation.
"It's not possible" he mumbles to himself. "What the hell is going on .... ?"
James slowly straightens up in the front seat of the old blue car and just as slowly he removes his hands from his face and opens his eyes. He takes a deep breath, his eyes blinking a little as they accustom themselves to light once again. He turns towards the backseat of the car where he had last seen her .... Mary .... his beloved wife .... the woman he had fought against hell and beyond in that godforsaken town she had loved so much to find her and to be with her once again for all eternity .... or so he had thought.
He reaches out a hand to the backseat and on finding it empty, he gives a small strangled cry of despair. She was gone. Mary was gone. It was just like when he had first come to Silent Hill .... but how could that be? After everything that had happened, how could Mary not be be with him now?
James flopped back against car seat, frustratingly shaking his head as he recalled the events that had taken place .... the events that had brought him to Silent Hill in the first place and the very events that had brought him to this particular moment in time. They had happened. He knew they did. It wasn't a weird dream or even a fucked up nightmare. Everything that he had experienced and encountered had happened, of that he was sure.
Tears form in his eyes as he remembers .... carrying Mary in his arms from that room in which she lay to his car. Placing Mary ever so carefully on the backseat of the car and then driving his car into the biting cold waters of Toluca Lake so he and Mary could be together again forever.
James shudders a little, rubbing his arms as if to warm himself as he also remembers just how cold the dark waters of the lake had been. Had been .... and now? He was back in his car in the carpark where it had practically began the first time .... or was this the first time and what he had thought had happened previously was just some kind of a bad dream? No, not a dream. It was like dejavu or some vicious cycle that would see him repeat the experiences until he got it right .... he shakes his head again as clamoring thoughts threaten to overtake his mind with doubt and confusion. He found Mary once before, he was determined he could find her again .... and keep her with him this time.
He pushes open the door of his car and steps out. As he stares out into the foggy distance he reaches into a jacket pocket and pulls out a photograph. He smiles at the familiar image on the photo, then staring out into the distance again he whispers softly .... "Mary, could you really be in this town .... again .... ?"
