Odds and Ends
Characters: Luna Lovegood and anybody who wants to join in.
Date: 29 August, 1999
Location: Lovegood's Emporium and Curiosity Shop for Open Minded Wizards and Witches in Need of a Certain Something, Even If They Don't Know What It Is.
Rating: PG
Summary: Luna minds her shop and hopefully encounters some interesting people.
Status: In Progress

Luna hummed to herself as she opened the doors to her shop, the last of her enchanted feather dusters sweeping away the last of the dust. Today, she had lit the place with dark blue candles, that burned with blue flames, casting an icy light over everything. She polished a set of bronze catcherpots, and then made sure the sign reading "Don't Feed the Mimic" was in plain view to anybody entering.

Business was decent. She got a lot of visitors and even if most of them never bought anything, she sold enough to get by, enough to the point that her vault in Gringotts was rarely opened, and instead grew quietly fuller as the ministry's pay began to pile up. She met lots of interesting people, and while her sound traps had yet to capture anything truly incriminating, she was able to file a report on recent werewolf movings as well as alert the ministry to a couple people who were most likely supporting some sort of anti-ministry group.

She was organizing a shelf full of books written in lost languages when she heard her bell, or rather, the enchanted silver statue of a fairy dancer, who giggled and flew around the room when the door opened. "Hello, and welcome to 'LoveLovegood's Emporium and Curiosity Shop for Open Minded Wizards and Witches in Need of a Certain Something, Even If They Don't Know What It Is.' Do you know what it is you need?"

The shop itself had been one Millicent had walked by many times, never quite looking twice at it, as she never saw a need to. It never seemed like a place she'd need to go into, she hadno need for the wares that it no doubt sold. However, today, Millicent was abnormally bored, and when she stopped to take a look at how much money she had in her wallet, she looked up to see that she was standing right nfront of the little store she always walked past.

Her curiousity wasn't really high, but as she looked at the name of the store, 'Lovegood' was familiar. She frowned and walked up to peak inside the storefront window, and immediately recognized the blonde that was milling around inside. Holy shit, Loony? She runs a store?

Now a bit more interested, Millicent opened the front door. She was announced by a bell, and something silver mmediately giggled and began flying around, which made Millicent stop in the doorway. Perhaps this wasn't a good dea.

But Luna had heard and had turned immediately to greet her would-be customer. Millicent raised her eyebrows as she listened to Luna rattle off the store name, and after takng a few steps so the door could close behind her, she answered, "I don't know what I need, but I think you need a shorter name for your store."

Luna cocked her head to the side as she regarded the newcomer. She looked vaguely familiar, but Luna had no idea who she was. Probably somebody from school. She never really knew anybody there, but after 7 years, she had learned most of their faces

"I think it's clever," Luna said smiling, without a hint of defense in her voice. "Plenty of stores have dull short names and you don't really know what you're getting into."

Millicent decided to debate with Luna would probably be a lost cause. Shorter names were easier to remember... in the end, Millicent knew she'd probably just end up remembering this place as 'Loony's Shop', and not the mouthful she had produced moments before. Millicent just a shrug to show her indifference to what Luna thought made a good store name and let her eyes glance around before they settled back on the blonde.

If Luna knew who she was, she was doing a good job of hiding it, which was a relief to Millicent. Sometimes running into old classmates from Hogwarts who had not been her year or house was nerve-wracking... she wasn't entirely proud of the way she had conducted herself back then, and the less people who remembered her like that the better.

"So... uh," Millicent glanced around the store once again, "What exactly do you sell?"

"Mostly older stuff. Odds and ends. Lost magics and rare artifacts." Luna said gesturing around.

"I also sell tarot cards and crystal balls," she said with a bored tone, nodding to the front of the room. "Because apparently a lot of people want that kind of stuff."

"Ooh, but this is interesting." Luna lead Millicent over to a glass case. "This is Mallard Mullfinger's magic hat. I got it cheap from somebody who didn't know what it was. It comes with a list of magic trigger words that I've figured out so far."
