Cheerleader & Beta Sign up Post
Here are the five painless steps to signing up for Severus's Big Bash:

1. Read the Rules!

Please be sure to read all sections. In order to provide good support for the writers and artists, you should be familiar with the rules they will be following.

2. Please have a look at the categories and timeline.

3. Snag the sign up form!

For Cheerleaders:

What ship(s) are you most interested in cheerleading? Does it matter? Severus/any Deatheater except Bellatrix, Severus/rare male pairing, Severus/marauder era male (at any time.) or gen (no ship.) It doesn't matter too much.
What genre are you most interested in cheerleading? Does it matter? Gen and slash. It matters somewhat. Non-crossovers, in case I don't know the other fandom.
What's the maximum rating that you'd be willing to cheerlead? Any.
Not willing to cheerlead (squicks): marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, raising children - not major characters as children being raised, but raising new children.
Do you want to cheerlead just one author? If not, how many are you willing to cheerlead? Three?
Are you also participating in the Big Bang? If so, what have you signed up to do? Yes, I am doing a craft project big bang and a writing bang story
What is the most important part of being a Big Bang cheerleader to you? Offering someone the chance to talk freely about something they love. That is always wonderful. Also encouragement, naturally. To give someone the sense that they are expressing something important to them as well as contributing to an appreciative community. To be excited and anticipatory about someone's project for them.

Other remarks (availability, notice needed, etc.): I will be away Sept 21 - Oct 21 (approx.) I may have internet access (naturally I hope to.) I work days but am generally on evenings.

Willing to beta (pairings, ratings, genres, het/slash/gen…): slash, gen, any rating, any genre unless it is a crossover I do not know, I am best with marauder era and death eaters, but I am willing to do most things. betaing is objective, after all. it doesn't matter if it is not my usual taste.
Not willing to beta (pairings, ratings, genres, squicks...): marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, raising children - not major characters as children being raised, but raising new children. filk.
Specialties (SPAG, canon, characterization, constructive criticism, britpicking, art, other…): detection of distracting anachronism, SPAG, canon, characterisation, briticking, art, plot consistency. I have done concrit but would never offer it unless a writer had specific troubling questions.
How many authors/artists are you willing to beta? two at the same time, but if they are not all at the same time, I am quite flexible.
When would you be available to be assigned as a beta? see 'other remarks'
Are you familiar with any other fandoms (for possible crossover entries)? Too many to list. Please ask if necessary.
Other remarks (availability, notice needed, etc.): I will be out of town Sept 24 to Oct 21. I may have internet access, but possibly not. three days notice would be nice. a week would be nicer. I am unused to betaing works of >6000 words but may find I could do one of these at a time with sufficient notice.

What genre are you most interested in cheerleading? Does it matter? Nothing too angsty or dark otherwise it doesn't really matter.
What's the maximum rating that you'd be willing to cheerlead? NC-17
Not willing to cheerlead (squicks): BDSM, D/s, non-con, Voldemort won type scenarios, infidelity
Do you want to cheerlead just one author? If not, how many are you willing to cheerlead? I could probably do a couple.

Depends on your definition of 'familiar'. =) Willing to do SPAG for pretty much any fandom, but my canon knowledge would be limited unless it's something like House, Bones, CSI, M*A*S*H, Star Trek.

Availability as above - notice depends on the length of fic (under 5000 I can do in less than a day, for example).

What is the most important part of being a Big Bang cheerleader to you? Being able to support Severus Snape and this project in a way that I can.

Willing to beta (pairings, ratings, genres, het/slash/gen…): I'm pretty flexible on all of the above. I'm supposed to be offering an objective eye here...If given the choice, I'd prefer het/gen. Pairings..doesn't matter. I've got a fair amount of experience working with original characters.

Not willing to beta (pairings, ratings, genres, squicks...): Again, I'm flexible.

Specialties (SPAG, canon, characterization, constructive criticism, britpicking, art, other…): I'm good at SPAG, tone, flow, and continuity/plot holes. I'm fairly decent at characterization. I'll offer up gentle and polite concrit. I'm not your best choice for brit-picking, as I'm not British. I have read for British and Australian authors and am good at pointing out slang us poor Yanks aren't likely to understand.

How many authors/artists are you willing to beta? I'd say two, but if the works are smallish, I can take more.

When would you be available to be assigned as a beta? I'm available immediately.

Are you familiar with any other fandoms (for possible crossover entries)? I'm very familiar with POTO and musical theater pieces. Beyond that, I am happy to read crossover fics, but can't offer them much beyond SPAG.

Other remarks (availability, notice needed, etc.): I will be out of the country and unavailable August 11-30 and November 3-8. I will have limited eMail access at these times; but I won't have the time to do work. I typically get pieces back within 1-4 days, depending on length. Specialties (SPAG, canon, characterization, constructive criticism, britpicking, art, other…): I am English so Britpicking is a speciality. SPAG is fine, particularly homophones and "final" proofreading (having been a proofreader for several years). Canon is pretty good. Characterisation - so-so. Constructive criticism - not a speciality but can cope to a certain extent. Not art.

How many authors/artists are you willing to beta? Depends on the length of the story, but my evenings are relatively free so 1-2 authors a week perhaps.

When would you be available to be assigned as a beta? From now onwards.

Are you familiar with any other fandoms (for possible crossover entries)? Austen, Sharpe, O'Brien, Hornblower, SG1, Highlander (characters and themes but not every episode), Regency period.

Other remarks (availability, notice needed, etc.): Away for 3 weeks in August. Would prefer a couple of days turnaround for each 1,000 words.

Willing to beta (pairings, ratings, genres, het/slash/gen…): I'm willing to beta anything, but the few things listed on the next line. I can deal with fringe pairings, any rating, most genres.

Not willing to beta (pairings, ratings, genres, squicks...): There are 3 large pairings I would prefer not to beta: ss/hg, ss/sb and ss/hp. Apart from these I'm happy to deal with anything up to and including ss/goat :D. I'm not crazy about completely dark/non-con/death/torture-y fics or adultery fics, but can certainly pinch-hit if necessary.

Specialties (SPAG, canon, characterization, constructive criticism, britpicking, art, other…): I edit all the time, so I'm good with most of these -- except perhaps the britpicking (I can do a general britpick, but nothing too nuanced). I'm also acquainted with multiple cultural contexts, so I could perhaps help in such aspects as well. Finally, I love research - so if there's something I don't know within the fic, I will probably double- and triple-check it. ;)

How many authors/artists are you willing to beta? I'm willing to beta around 50k words, or 2 authors.

When would you be available to be assigned as a beta? Anytime. Of course my schedule isn't set in stone, but there are ways to work around such things.

Are you familiar with any other fandoms (for possible crossover entries)? Umm yes, a few anime fandoms and a few media/book fandoms. Should I list all these? Ask and we can see... ;)

Other remarks (availability, notice needed, etc.): I'll be happy to beta a long fic or two, but I'll need about a week, week and a half turn-around time (I like to be thorough).

Specialties (SPAG, canon, characterization, constructive criticism, britpicking, art, other…): A bit Brit-picky/SPAG-picky, but accepting of US English spell-checkers and regional speech/grammar patterns. Personally I like canon characters, but don't mind anything as long as it's not too far left of centre ;-)

Are you familiar with any other fandoms (for possible crossover entries)?: Not too keen on crossovers, they tend to do my head in.

Other remarks (availability, notice needed, etc.): Nothing with too short a notice, as I'm studying and have many, many hours of placement to complete. A week would be great, in case there's a day I can't get online for whatever reason. I'm available pretty much all the time :-)
