A/N: I know it’s a bit early, but I couldn’t help myself! Besides, with all the reposting I just did I figure I ought to post something new. Thanks to lovetoseverus for the beta! Happy Halloween everyone!
Severus had been standing outside their rooms with his hand on the door, afraid to walk in, for the past five minutes. He kept picturing what he would see when he walked inside, and each thought was more horrible than the last. He remembered what had excited Harry when he’d dragged him into the Weasleys’ shop: pumpkin-shaped light strings, fiber optic ghosts, trick-or-treating candy bowls that cackled and tried to grab your hands when you reached into them. He’d been delighted by each and every last thing they had seen, while Severus had simply grown more horrified as the afternoon had progressed.
A sudden thud came from inside, followed by Harry’s colorful cursing, and he winced. Why had he agreed to this? A house full of Weasleys was bad enough, but on Halloween...
He took a steadying breath and whispered the password, opening the door and staring into the room in amazement. Midsized, smoky-looking bats perched on their ceiling, and every now and again one took flight overhead to land somewhere else. A large jack-o-lantern was sitting on their coffee table, a bright candle inside lighting up his wicked smile. All around the room were small tea lights in black and orange, their soft light giving the room a spooky atmosphere. Party trays lined the room, and several bottles of their best wine were perched on the bar.
Severus turned to Harry, who was cleaning up the tray he’d dropped, and knelt to help him. Harry smiled, and they cleaned in silence for a moment before Severus said, “Thank you for making it tasteful."
Harry looked up at his lover, a look on his face that Severus couldn’t quite place. After a moment he said, “Of course I did, Severus. I want everyone to have fun, including you— especially you. If it were Ron’s birthday, or the twins’— I’d have gone for something crazy. But for Halloween…” He smiled. “I want us all to enjoy it.” He kissed Severus gently and stood, moving to throw the tray away when the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” Severus said, and the look on Harry’s face was worth it. “Welcome, Mr. Weasley,” he said a few moments later. “Please come in and make yourself at home. Would you like a glass of wine? We have several varieties…”
