Who: Audrey and Liam (and OPEN?)
When: May 7, 7:58am
Where: The Courtyard
What: On their way to their defense practice session is the perfect time to try to tap dance!
Rating: PG/PG-13
Status: Incomplete

Audrey caught Liam on their way out the Great Hall, just after breakfast, as they headed to the courtyard to practice defense spells. Their make-shift defense group was quite nice, even though the majority of exams were over and even if they didn't have to worry about upcoming OWLs or NEWTs. It was still good to practice, in Audrey's opinion, especially since she wasn't the best at the subject and needed all the help she could get.

Which was why it didn't make much sense for her to choose this time to burst into a new song. Heaven only knew how she didn't manage to lose her voice over the past few days, since she did more singing and laughing in the past forty-eight hours (minus the ones for sleep once she was finally exhausted enough to collapse) than she ever did in her entire life, or what she could remember of it. Because her mind really wasn't on anything except this utterly happy feeling and how she felt more confident and less insecure.

Swinging her arm through Liam's, she grinned happily. "Good mornin', good mornin'!" she began in a sing-song voice. "We've talked the whole night through. Good mornin', good mornin' to you."

"Good mornin', good mornin'! It's great to stay up late, Good mornin', good mornin' to you." She waved to the students running to their first class. "When the band began to play, the sun was shinin' bright. Now, the milkman's on his way; it's too late to say goodnight."

And suddenly she came up with the idea to try to tap dance. Not that she knew how to or knew that she didn't have the correct shoes on, but they did it in old movies, and that was enough incentive for her! "So, good mornin', good mornin'! Sunbeams will soon smile through. Good mornin', good mornin' to you!"

Liam had no explanation for why life seemed so jolly wonderful lately, but he wasn't complaining. It felt brilliant! The castle was beautiful, everyone looked great, his family were marvellous! All around, life was amazing! Admittedly, he was normally a bit nervous about these Defense practices, but today he wasn't terribly concerned about it.

He fell quickly into step with Audrey and beamed at her as they latched arms and began to walk. His grin grew wider when she started to sing and he joined her without hesitation, his voice falling into rhythm with Audrey's quite nicely, if he could say so himself. He waved at every person they passed, especially as they sang the 'good mornin' line, grinning wildly and swinging from side to side as they walked.

However, he paused when Audrey did, wondering what new, brilliant idea she might have now.

Why, she was dancing! Aces! Just like in that old movie this song was from. He remembered seeing it a few times and he laughed before joining her in step. He wasn't at all certain how one actually tap danced, but he figured it was easy enough to just play it by ear, trying to imitate how that Gene Kelly fellow had done it in the film.

"Good mornin', good mornin', to you. And you, and you, and you! Good morning, good morning, We've gabbed the whole night through! Good morning, good morning to you. Nothin' could be grander than to be in Louisiana in the morning, in the morning, it's great to stay up late!" His feet were moving rapidly on the stones and he tried to wave his arms a bit, but it seemed rather more difficult than he'd thought.

Hmm. He glanced over at Audrey, intent on following her lead. Ah, this was fantastic!

Audrey never thought much about her voice, even when she wasn't deliriously happy. She thought it was mediocre and that she could carry a tune, but now? She just felt happy enough to sing and not care what people thought about it! And it was a good morning! The sun was up, the birds were chirping, the Whomping Willow hadn't whacked anyone in a while... how could it not be a good morning?!

And now with Liam singing with her, it even made the good morning a better morning! And dancing! Yay! And he didn't seem to notice that she wasn't really tap-dancing since her shoes weren't as clicky-loud to make those noises on the floor. But it was fun! How could they fault that?

"Good mornin', good mornin' to you." she tagged onto Liam's line with a big grin, then stopped so they could put their hands on their knees and recite the next speedy verse. "It might be just a zippy, if you was in Mississipi!"

How can anyone not smile when they were doing this?

Liam had no concerns about his vocal ability; he'd quite simply never thought of it before, and now he was far too happy to worry about it. Every word of the song rang completely true in his ears as they danced along. It was an absolutely perfect morning. The courtyard was a wonderful sight, alive with the sound of birds and the sun peeking up and chasing away the shadows, how could anyone see it and not feel their mood lightened?

He was also far too busy attempting to dance himself to bother worrying about whether their tapping could be heard or not. He was barely even bothered by the fact that he kept falling out of step and having to correct himself. How they looked or how well they did wasn't the point, anyhow. The point was that they were having a jolly good time!

He followed Audrey's lead, slapping his hands to his knees and singing along with her, grinning from ear to ear, then moved along into the next part of the song, "When we left the movie show, the future wasn't bright, but tame is gone, the show goes on..."

Audrey didn't care if she was singing inappropriately -which she didn't think she was because none of the lyrics were suggestive, right? or else her brothers might lock her away in Ravenclaw Tower and not let her out until she promised to be good and quiet- or if the other students looked at them strangely. And now that she had a partner to sing with, it just made her feel more invigorated to continue.

"So say, Good Mornin'! Good Mornin'! Rainbow is shining through," Audrey continued with a big grin. Her muscles were almost aching from all the smiling and laughing she had been doing. And she whipped her arms out as if she wanted to show the whole world she was there. "Good Mornin'!"

Liam grinned brightly at Audrey as they sang, though he did lose his place in the dancing. Giving up on it, he fell into a merry little jig he'd learned when he was just a little blighter. It didn't really matter that he didn't match the song, anyway. He was still having fun and so long as he didn't throw Audrey off, all should be well!

He answered her in the song, grinning madly from ear to ear, "Good Mornin'!" before moving on to the next prompt, "Bon Jour!" and there he held his hand out to her to hear her sing her reply. Oh, this was such brilliant fun! How could anyone not be singing and dancing, anyhow?

What was wrong with the rest of the school who weren't joining in? The ones they kept passing as they danced along, giving them some odd looks. Really, didn't they know they were missing out?!

Audrey caught Liam's jig and grinned widely. She wanted to learn! It looked like fun! Even if it wasn't tap-dancing or went with the song really, it looked interesting and Liam was having a good time!

"Bon Jour!" she replied to him, and did a twirl before looking at his feet and trying to figure out how to copy his merry movements. She smiled up at him, hoping he didn't mind her joining his impromptu dance, as she danced along and tried to add a couple of tap-steps into it.

When they reached their defense group's designated spot, she didn't stop singing, and merely went "Buenos dias!" and "Buon Giorno!" to them, ignoring the looks on their faces.
