“You know it’s funny,” Q says thoughtfully. “There aren’t any songs about chocolate. There are songs about candy,” he goes on, after thinking for a moment. “Actually there are a lot of songs about candy, but none specifically about chocolate. And that’s a shame. I can’t think of another food that so richly deserves to be lauded in song. I like just plain dark chocolate, maybe with almonds. Caramel is good too. But don’t muck it up with lots of add-ins. It loses some of its uniqueness. It should be as simple as possible so as to be best appreciated.” He frowns at Ianto. “I don’t know about eating it off someone though. It would make an awful mess and you’d get all sticky. What fun is that?”

	"Not really," he says, standing up. "Something to do with the fundamental nature of a substance I guess." Q shrugs. "It's one of those things that's always like that, so you don't question it." 	"But you can change things into other things, I know that. So why not change food into another kind of food, which doesn't seem like that much of a change at all? He thinks about that. "That's right. That's how I made my piano," Q reminds him. "It just doesn't work. We'll get some fish and chips and I'll change it into a lamb korma. You can taste it and then you'll see. Well, not really see because it'll look like lamb korma. But you can taste." He blinks. "Just how much chocolate are we talking about here?" He nods. "Like Mrs Skowers Magical Mess remover. Though if you think about it, you wonder if it's for magical messes or if it gets rid of them magically."

"I'll take your word that it doesn't work, I just want to know why it doesn't. It doesn't make any sense." He considers that. "Well, it depends really. You can make a bit of a mess with a box of truffles. And it tends to get rather runny. Or very runny, if you melt it before hand." He nods. "Yeah, something like that. Have you ever tried it on a non-magical mess, t see?"

"Well, you can't really create anything out of nothing, can you? That would raise your power to a level I'd really rather not contemplate." He shakes his head. "Chocolate sauce doesn't really have the same flavour as real chocolate, though. It's missing something. Real chocolate is better for something like that." He tips his head at that. "So why would you have a product for that at all, if you can just magic things clean?"

"Not exactly, no," Q tells him. "Though it looks like that sometimes." He thinks about this. "Body? Depth? Something you can sink your teeth into?" he hazards. Q grins. "There are always spots you can't scourgify out. Usually on your best robes right before an important function. So you need something stronger. And, some people aren't as good at cleaning charms as others."

	"Well, no, I meant material things. Light is different, energy conversion and all that. But you can't just create, a....a tea cup, can you? Without changing it from something else?" He nods. "Well nothings going to happen if you do it like that!" Q says, slightly exasperated. "You're not shooing away a fly. Proper wrist, hand and wand movement is crucial." He sounds like a teacher, not surprisingly. "OOH! Now I don't know which I want more. Candy or ice cream. Terrible state to be in, doncherknow." Q gives Ianto a sidewise glance. "How do you know," he asks, not sure if he wants to know the answer.

	Q thinks for a moment. "Ever conducted to the wireless?" he asks. "Do they really?!" he marvels. "What will they think of next? The best of both worlds." Q looks relieved and embarrassed. "And the movies?" Q asks. "Never mind. You've surely seen conductors on the telly. Waving that little stick around? Well, that's basically how you use a wand. There's quite a bit more involved naturally, but that's a good place to start. Go ahead," he gives Ianto an encouraging nod. "Give it a try." Q smiles back. "You know what I think I'm sorriest about? I missed the turn of the century. Completely passed it by! And that doesn't happen every day." This is the first Q's heard about Torchwood having a doctor. Fairly standard procedure though. "I'll bet he's got samples of alien skin. And no, no torturing. It would make us look bad."

I mean, everyone made a big deal about it, but it was just like any other new year." Except for what happened at Torchwood Cardiff, but he wasn't there for that. "Oh he did. Q grins at the look on Ianto's face. "Just pretend you're Leopold Stokowski," he tells him. "Now, stiffen your wrist a bit and sort of lay your index finger along the wand." He raises an eyebrow. "Maybe," he says dubiously. "I would have liked a chance to decide for myself. Right!" Q nods. "And I'll bet he's got some doctor way of taking skin off. You know, to preserve it properly? Not with a cheese grater." He shudders, glad he's never had to use one.
